How much did you lose pre-op or have you lost pre-op?

Recommended Posts

I was suppose to do 7 days of Clear Liquids and I only did 3, I only lost 7 pounds pre op, 229 to 222, I am 191 now. My surgery was also covered by insurance healthlink because of diabetes in the family and acid reflux.

More questions, since I didn't have to do a pre op diet. Do you get turned away if you don't lose weight? What are the consequences for not doing a pre op diet when they told you to do one? Will they not do the surgery? Has anyone ever been actually turned away?

Pre-op was 2 weeks before surgery for me. Mushy food and liquids mostly.

From April to 2 weeks before the surgery I lost 20 pounds.

From 2 weeks before to the date of surgery, I lost 11 pounds

Since surgery (9/21) I've lost 39 pounds.

Everyone's different I think, because every doctor's diet is different. I knew they wouldn't turn me away from surgery if I didn't lose weight, but, they'd be much more skeptical about it working. And I don't blame them I guess.

It just makes the surgery a little more difficult, thats what the nurse in my doctors office said. I never heard of them turning anyone away.

I have no idea what they would do if you didn't do the pre-op diet. I did it because the dr said it makes it more likely that they won't have to convert to an open surgery (because it shrinks the liver, making it easier for him to work w/ the stomach internally).

I lost 10 lbs during the pre-op. My surgeon is very arrogant, and the last thing I remember before they put me under is when they wheeled me into the OR. He was standing there (we were about 4 minutes late because I had to use the bathroom one last time) with his arms over his chest like "what's been holding you up??" He said "How'd you do on the pre-op diet?" I said happily, "I lost 10 lbs." He kind of gave me a harumph, like I didn't lose enough. That's all I remember LOL!

Elisa I would have looked at the anestesiologist(sp?) and said "put me under quick before I pop him one!" LOL 10 pounds is 10 pounds and not to be sniffed at!

I lost 14 lbs in 14 days on Optifast. I was thrilled. I'm 2 weeks out (today) and have lost another 8. 70 more pounds to GO!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how long that will take. I heard 8 - 12 lbs a week. Does that sound about right?

My Doc told me it was 1-2 lbs a week also. If you kept up losing 8-12 lbs a week that would be unhealthy I would think. It would be great, but unhealthy!

I lost 14 lbs in 14 days preop and was THRILLED. It's been 18 days since my surgery and I'm down another 10lbs! Yippie! It's a great jump start as I know soon I will only lose 6 - 10 lbs a month. I'm walking 2 miles a day EVERYDAY and I think that is a big help. 70 more pounds to go!

Good luck to you.

I am down 18 pounds now, and go in for surgery tomorrow. I was thrilled with 18 pounds b/c usually I lose like 8 - 10 pounds with any other diet I try in a 2 week span. I have been completely starving these last 2 weeks though. Hardest thing I have ever done!! Well...Worth it I am sure..I am trying to keep the eye on the prize!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
