Obtaining Health Insurance After Getting Banded

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any success obtaining an individual medical insurance policy after success with gastric banding or for that matter gastric bi-pass? Specifically when you had medical problems prior to the surgery that were resolved with the surgery. For example diabetes or high blood pressure.

We just changed our heathinsurance to a new provider a few weeks ago.

I was banded 1/31/11

Hx of diabetes, blood pressure, and cardiac angioplasty.

It was never an issue.

My mom had gastric bypass in 2001. She was supposed to be in the hospital for a week and things went wrong. She spent four months in the hospital and almost died. She had high blood pressure and other problems before and has wonderful health insurance. The problems she had before, during, or after were never an issue.

I was Banded 5 years ago. Just last year I qualified for my Medicare.

Not a problem, they even pay for several different kinds of WLS..

They look at it as we won't have all these Medical Bills to pay on someone for the rest of their LIFE !

(POSSIBLY !) If we go ahead and pay for the surgery...

So it's viewed as prevention is better then cure ! That works for me, and is smart business...

So NO ! problem here...

I own my own company and I have yet to find an Insurence to cover me. They all say they will until we get to that "banded question "

Out of Detroit I use to have H A P / Health Alliance Plan

Location W. Grand Blvd. Detroit, Michigan.

They are a firm believer in prevention is better then cure.

The Hospital that they recommend is right across the street.

Henry Ford Hospital COE.

I'm sure there are others but you might have to inquire

They took care of mine, and also replaced both knees.

So they are out there, just hard to find. I guess....

Also Medicare will pick up the bill for WLS.

They also pay for my adjustments.

You might want to give them a call, and see what they

will cover..

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
