How much did the extra skin weigh for a TT?

Recommended Posts

I am looking forward to starting my insurance process for getting a TT. Just curious for those who have had the procedure how much the extra skin weighed? I have a pretty good pannus right now and curious how much I might lose....

Thanks,

Katie

I had a mini Tummy Tuck that was then extended and I think in total my doc cut off 3.5 lbs or something around there. Don't expect your scale to change much though. Even after a year of some Lipo and a tummy tuck I maintained my weight at 150 though my body changed so much!

First, congratulations on your weight loss. Second, skin doesn't weigh very much, so don't expect a change to your scale. My goal of the TT was to get rid of the unwanted skin and have a better appearance to where my clothing would fit better. I'm very pleased with the results. I recommend that you prepare for the same weight, then if you lose a little bit, then that'll be a bonus. A word of advice though, you will have lots of swelling immediately after your procedure, so it's a good idea to wait a week or so before getting on the scale or you might be disappointed.

Oh, and I also took measurements (waist, hips) prior to surgery so I would know how much my body had changed since I wasn't expecting a weight loss. It was sort of a mental thing with me just wanting to know that I was spending the money and getting something out of it. I'm down three dress sizes, so HELL YEAH! I got something out of it!

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted on your progress!

I just had my TT in August and lost about 10 lbs from the surgery. I had a full TT with muscle tightening.. once the initial swelling went down I was def down 10 lbs. I know they say skin doesn't weigh much, but mine did I guess.

Mine was only 2.2 pounds but my plastic surgeon said that I didn't have as much loose skin as most weight loss patients have. I'm not even 3 weeks out and my scale already shows the 2.2 pounds:) but I had a no drain Tummy Tuck so the swelling is supposed to better with that method.

Good luck to you! You will LOVE your results!

Mine will be lucky to even register on the scale. I need reconstructive work on my caesar scar after a bowel resection and a little bit of tightening behind where my ileostomy was, and the plastic surgeon told me that to do that he's virtually doing a Tummy Tuck anyway so we may as well go the whole hog! Im certainly not arguing. But i only have just enough loose skin for him to it, so im guessing maybe a pound or so.

Great idea to take measurements. I dont think ill actually change clothing sizes but i lije numbers.

Spoiltmom - what is a no-drain TT? I had my drains in for a week and had to go have Fluid expressed weekly for at least a month after that - and I had a small wound that took months to close as well - but all is well, I even have noticable hip bones now

It's a surgical method where they place extra tension sutures. The extra sutures holds all the skin tighter and prevents excess fluids from pooling. You swell less and there are no drain tubes at all. It takes your PS a little longer in surgery but IMO it's worth it in the end. The only issue I had was a seroma but mine opened up and drained on it's own without needing to be aspirated.

Well that would have been awesome!! I hated the JP Drains very much.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
