Pain on left side

Recommended Posts

For the last 4 days I have had pain in my upper left side (right under my left boob-maybe in the ribcage). It hurts and thankfully my husband has a pain killer for me when it gets too bad. I can't imagine what it is. I know once we get the band we tend to think everything is band related!! At first I thought it was gas pains, but it hasn't gone away. Did anyone else experience this?:o

Is that where your port is? I get a pain in the same place but it usually happens if I eat too much.

The port is where the incision is right? This is higher than any of my incisions. I also have lots soreness in my left shoulder, but I figure that's unrelated to my left side. I didn't know whether to call my family doctor or wait until I see my surgeon on Thursday. I heard of flipped ports and band slippage, but I can still eat (not a lot though)so I don't think it's that-it could be just old age! lol

Your surgery wasn't all that long ago. The shoulder pain could be a little residual effects of the gas. Every doctor puts the port somewhere different. It's not exactly under the incision. Mine is about an inch or two to the left of my scar. I wouldn't worry too much since you're going to the doctor in a couple days. Just make sure to mention it to him. I'm sure you don't have a slip or flipped port. I seriously doubt it's old age!

if you are still able to eat and drink and not having reflux, then i would not think it is a slip. i have not had one, so i am not for sure on that. i still get some pain every once in a while and mine was done 5 months ago. i get it if i eat too much or don't chew good. and will have some pain in my left shoulder too, but it goes away. i would mention it to them, but don't think it is something to be alarmed about.

Hi I had a similar pain about a month ago. I was banded on 7/25 and on 8/24 I got this pain in my left ribcage.....high up under my bra line. I took tylenol and stayed with it. The next day we went upstate and it was sill there. I decided to call my dr. in case it was band related. They sent me to the ER and took lots of tests to rule out a blood clot. Nothing showed up so they kind of ruled out a blood clot and think it was just muscular. That it what I thought but was not sure. It really scared me to think of a clot but I'm glad they were so thorough. It went away and now I feel better. Hope your pain goes away soon. Tell the dr. just in case. CAT

Thanks everyone for your replies! It hurt enough that I wentto my family doctor and she said no vital organs are on the left side. She thinks it just may be a pulled muscle.

Cindy-that was sucj a nice tribute to your dad. We never forget our dads do we?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
