Any men getting ready for Sept banding?

Recommended Posts

Had my pre op checks this morning. Day 11 of the liquid diet and 21lbs down already so really pleased with that start although I'm getting pretty fed up with the same things day after day but the big countdown is on with surgery at 1.30pm on Thursday. Hope you guys who were banded this week are doing well. Gary

I am now banded! Had some minor complications during surgery, had to be transfered to a hospital after surgery, since surgery was done at outpatient clinic. For some reason after waking up from surgery, I was spitting up blood. I had wheezing in my lungs, and just felt awful. Doc said it was something to do with the tube going down my throat, and creating a negative pressure. Its not very common, but said it happens somtimes with big strong men like me...(Yeah!...he called me strong..lol!). Air in chest cavity is for the dogs! That crap hurts! Call me a big sissy, but i dont like it when I hurt. I am now somewhat back to normal. A little excited with the journey in front of me. I am already fitting into shirts that had shrunk on me...LOL!

Well, glad you are safe and sound, that's the main thing. The spitting up blood scenario does not sound pleasant and neither does the gas in chest cavity. Thanks for letting me know that 36 hours before I go into battle! Let us know how things progress and I'll let you know how I get on with surgery (assuming I make it through surgery :-)

Well, I have now joined the banded band! I went into hospital on Thursday at 11.30am and was operated on at 1.30pm. It can't have gone any better I have to say. I woke up sore around the midriff but that has improved a lot over the 24 hours since I was operated on. It feels like I have done a thousand sit ups! but strangely I have no gas pains at all and I was all ready with my GasX, maybe the gas pains have still to arrive? hope not! Deep breaths are sore but the meds have it sorted for now. Got home today at 12.30pm and had some Soup. I think overall while I would want to go through the process again, it was not as traumatic as I was expecting nor as painful after the fact. One step at a time I guess and a few days to let everything settle before going back to work. Hope everyone is doing well and keep in touch. Gary

I just had a look at your weight loss ticker and we are remarkably similar in loss and wieghtloss remaining. I have to say I am loving my band. I don't have a fill yet but I am completely satisfied with small amounts of food. I know this may not last long but I'm enjoying it while it does last. The incisions have mostly healed and body hair is growing back and will cover any marks. I find my food choices are easier because I'm not opting for bulk therefore I am being more choosy about small and more exquisite foods that are tasty, healthy and compatible. That is a nice side effect, not going for a food option because it is simply 'big' but choosing what flavours I want on the basis I woun't be eating much of it. I'm going away with the family on holiday this Thursday for 10 days and so the real adventure will begin then as we eat out every night, how will that work? Will I order a starter and that's it? or will I skip that and see what kind of dent I can make in main course? My only real difficulty is not drinking when I'm eating, I used to drink 3 or 4 cans of diet coke during a main meal! Anyway, I hope you are getting on well buddy, let me know how you are finding things. best of luck, Gary

well, well, well........It is a good day indeed! Just realised using the chart I have moved from being morbidly obese to simply obese. Not sure I should be especially proud to be obese but feel like I am quite proud to no longer be considered morbidly obese, which is a horrible expression.......must have been a thin 'fattist' that came up with that one!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
