Showering-- How soon after surgery?

Recommended Posts

So I had surgery on Thursday, and my doctor told me not to shower till Saturday. I want to shower today, but am kinda scared.

My biggest incision has a square credit-card sized bandaid over it, and the rest just have regular band-aids that look like they go on kids' 'booboos'.

Shouldn't I have hardcore gauze or bandaging going on?

I'm afraid that showering will either be painful (with Water and soap getting into a raw area) or lead to infection.

Any tips? I normally shower in really hot water, is this okay? Should I use my loofah and soap or not?

I would.follow.his.instructions and def not use a loofa or any strongly scented soap on the incisions. That would do nothing but irritate them and make you unhappy!

Luckily my Dr uses waterproof bandage stuff so I was allowed to shower as soon as I wanted. That stuff was a pain to get off though!

My surgery was in patient. They said I could shower the next morning. I waited til I got home so about 30 hours after surgery.

My surgery was Thursday also, congrats. My doctor said not to shower to Saturday. Because I was scared to do it I waited till today and just took it easy, no hard scrubbing. I don't recommend the loofah. You'll be fine and feel refreshed.

My surgeon used glue to close my wounds so i did not have any dressings to worry about and i showered first thing the next morning after surgery. The top two layers of skin should be healed 48hrs after surgery all being well with no signs of inflammation or infection you should be fine to shower in your own home no problem but as others have said don't rub the wounds. i also love a boiling hot shower :)

I was told no showering for 24 hours. My incisions were closed with dermabond. What I did was I stood mostly with my back to the shower so the spray wouldn't go right on the incisions and my stomach was sore so it would've hurt to. So just maybe take a washcloth and gently clean your stomach area, definitely do not scrub over the incisions. If you want to loofah the rest of your body go right ahead.

I was banded on Monday and I think showered Wednesday morning

I was banded on September 1st. Told to wait 3 days to take a shower. My incisions were taped and I too stood under the shower primarily with my back to the Water. The doctor said do NOT scrub the incisions just gently wash the stomach area with a little bit of soap and Water and then pat dry. The most important things was to make sure that I did look at the incisions a lot to make sure they are healing properly. It has been over a week now and I still have the tape on my incisions, even though it is starting to come off. I'm not really worried about it. I felt great when I take a shower, but was concerned about facing the spray for I didn't want to put undue pressue or anything on my incisions. I've only faced the water once and feel kind of wierd when the water hits my stomach area. I'm sure it will get better, but don't worry you'll feel great that you can clean up and feel a bit normal again

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
