Crunchy foods for dinner

Recommended Posts

So my dietitian has told me I've to start eating crunchy foods now. So I'm ok with lunch and breakfast but I'm having problems with dinner. Any suggestions on what to eat and also what do you eat when you go out to restaurants??? Thanks in advance x

Be careful by what she means by "Crunchy"

I love raw vegetables, such as carrots, but they have become a No-no for me. No matter how well you chew, etc, they will never get soft. Potato chips on the other hand, are crunchy but they will get soft and pass through my band easily. Anything breaded and fried is off my list now for foods that I can eat with little problems.

I have to peel a raw apple, another one of my favorites.

If you are post-op, I would think she meant "solid foods" as opposed to "crunchy"

Be really careful with crunchy foods. You have to chew the heck out of them or they will get stuck. When they do get stuck it is so much worse than when something soft gets stuck. I avoid them for the most part!

nachos are good...the tortilla chips chew down really small and you can put Beans and cheese so that you get your Protein.< /p>

Dinners for me include steak, burgers, turkey burger, veggie burger, dark meat chicken, Dreamfields Pasta, which only has 5 g. of digestable carbs and lots of Protein ( love it!), shrimp, fish, etc. I may have a small salad, Tomato salad, grilled veggies, cucumbers, whatever I cook for the family, ( I had celery yesterday and it didn't get stuck). I don't always eat my Protein first, HOWEVER, I eat it mostly, with a few bites of veg in between. I can't eat only 1 thing at a time. Never could. And as much as I try, it doesn't ever happen. This is the only rule I don't follow. as far as carbs go, I may have a taste of someone elses, just not to be left out, but breads are out of the question, they burn going down and then I'm uncomfortable- which is totally not worth it! I have learned to ask myself and others, is it worth it ( In other words does it taste soooo good, that I'll be sorry if I don't try it?) lol, most people give me an honest, no, and then I don't want it anymore! sometimes they say yes, and I try a nibble of it, then to me, its not worth it- not so great!.

When I go out to eat, I order whatever protein is tempting, and two veg, if it comes with 2 sides. or I share with someone else. I have ordered an app instead- like mozzerella sticks, if there is nothing else I can have. I've ordered a cheesesteak with no bun! lol. last night we had some chinese, we shared a pint of chicken chow mein between two people, and I didn't eat all of mine.

I hope this is helpful, Its just what I do. I think it's trial and error. Like, I learned I can't eat white chicken. It's too dry and gets stuck, and did right from my first fill.

Good luck, and enjoy your journey or rediscovery!

I love to get some Pasta sauce and put it on melba toast sprinkle with little cheese and few mini peperoni slices and toast!!! ITS SOO GOOD!!

That sounds good and easy. I will have to try that since school is back in and I need all the fast recipes I can get.

I love meat loaf. I take 1 lb ground turkey, 2 eggs, 1 slice of bread (wet it and squeeze out all the water), 1 can of diced tomotos, and spices to taste. Mix will. Put in casserole dish and cover with 1 can Tomato sause and pace pacante sauce. Bake at 400 for 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. It is soooooo moist that it will melt in your mouth.

Good luck! For me, the third one was the charm. I have 8cc in an 11cc band, and I'm finally feeling some real restriction.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
