Couch to 5K anyone?

Recommended Posts

I have stalled in my weight loss the last couple of years. Althought I have not gained which is awesome I have become way too comfortable...I decided to get busy. I am currently on week 3 of the couch to 5K program. I also go to Zumba 2x's per week. To hold myself accountable I also registered for a 5K at the end of October. Anyone else doing this or just starting out in a running program?

I'm in week 6 of SparkPeople.com's 5K Your Way Rookie Runner program. I'm planning on doing a 5K in late September or early October. I've never done anything like this before (always hated running with a passion), and have been amazed at how much I've been loving it. Who knew?

This running thing is new for me too...I am suprised how much I am getting into it! I am really determined to run a 5K. Good luck to both of you who are also doing the program. Lets keep each other up to date on our progress. :)

I'm in the middle of week 2 of it! I'm hoping to get to a point of enjoying running, but I still pretty much hate it. I love how I feel after I finish a session of it though. I bought an iphone app that tells me when to run and when to walk. It helps because I don't have to pay any attention to the time. Do y'all run on a treadmill or outside? I'm in Texas and it's just too hot to run outside right now, but I'm hoping that by the time I get to the point that I have to run for a long period of time I'll be able to go outside. If y'all are doing it on a treadmill how fast are you running and walking? I was wondering about this because I feel like I'm jogging really slow (I was at 5 mph last week when it was just a minute of running but slowed it to 4.8 mph for this week). I'm not at a pace where I would be running 3 miles in 30 minutes if I were to stay at this pace. I guess I'm just wondering where other people are at on it :)

MLR, it started out as enjoying it after the session was over. I loved the way I felt later in the day. Lately, though, it's been nice while I'm actually out there--but still mostly when it's over. wink.gif

I run outside. I did one day on a treadmill when the weather was bad, but I disliked having to constantly change the speed on the treadmill rather than just moving my feet faster. I'm not running quickly, just trying to stay jogging for the entire amount of time I'm supposed to, rather than stopping to walk. At this point I'm going for endurance, not speed. Speed will come later. I'm also trying hard not to compare myself with other people--there will always be somebody faster and somebody slower than me. The only person I'm really competing with is myself.

I don't do well with heat or humidity, so I'm usually out running before 6am. When it starts getting cold and freezing over, I imagine I'll have to stay indoors if I don't take the winter off. But for now, before-dawn sessions are working well for me.

Started running after I was banded last Oct. the weight came off fast and furious ran two 5k's and more recently and 8k in June. All of a sudden my weight loss just stalled with the running so I started Insanity but the problem is I can't get enough calories in with the band to support this kind of excercise anyone have any suggestions I got down to 195 with my last fill but now I am stalled at 206-209. I know muscle ways more than fat but when does the building muscle kick in to jump start the buring of calories and thus weight loss? Help Help Help Help!!! I am frusterated!!

Just hit week 8 this week. 28 min of straight running. I laugh when I think about how it took me 3 weeks to do Week 1 Day 1 and complete it and where I am now.

MRL....I am in Texas too (Waco area) so I am currently on a treadmill until fall gets here. I just finished week 3 and I also have the iphone app. I am currently running at a 5 and walking at a 3.8 we will see how that goes next week as the time of running increases. :) I love how I am starting to feel running and I can see where my endurance is growing already.

Thill69 & Kanroz....yall give me hope because although I am determined to do this I look ahead at the weeks to come and I really wonder if I will be able to do it when I get there.

YAY...so glad that I found some others doing this also...good luck to everyone!

I just finished week 4 and am really enjoying it. That said, my pace is glacial. When they say run x distance or 5 minutes, I hit the 5 minute mark hundreds of yards short of what they indicate the distance should be. I'm scared that people in walkers will be passing me when I do my first 5k in late sept. or worse, I'll run 30 minutes and end up way short of the finish line.

Don't sweat it, MaleJaxFL. The only race I've looked at that even had a time limit said you had to finish in 60 minutes. The rest had no limit at all. If you're way short at 30 minutes, then finish in 40 or 50 or however long it takes you. There will always be someone faster and slower than you--for now, the point is to finish! Speed will come after you've built up your endurance. Don't worry about it. smile.gif

I started p90x yesterday and I credit the couch to 5k program with getting my cardiovascular system up to the task of dealing with the intensity of p90x. I'm only in the 5th week of c25k but my body has made huge advances in endurance.

the couch to 5k kicks my ass. I work out all the time and I can never make it past week 4. I dont know why. I just gave up months ago.

I might try it again, but running on a treadmill is boring and there is no where to run outside.

One of the reasons I dont think i can make it far is because I like to run fast. If the treadmill is at a slow speed, I just get too bored to run for 5+ minutes.

What speed do you use to run if you use treadmills?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
