i am so tired of explaining to people

Recommended Posts

i wish i had not told anyone besides my sisters and husband!! I am 7 weeks post op and just had my first fill last thurs. and as of then showed a 22lb weight loss. i have no restriction right now, so i am trying my hardest to watch what i eat so i can keep losing.

i have a few close friends i told about my surgery because i was so excited to get it. Well i guess they don't think 22 lbs is good enough. when i told one of them she was like oh. then after telling another (who was thinking about speaking to her dr about getting it) she said " i don't think i want it now". And i feel like i have been trying to explain it takes awhile sometimes. my surgeon doesnt leave any Fluid in at surgery and you have to wait 6 weeks to get your first fill, and i wouldn't be at all surprised if he were conserative with fills. anyway i just got off the phone with the last friend who wanted to know how i was doing, and she pretty much made me feel like a failure. i just wanted to vent. Anyone else with similar results have some promising results to share, i am trying to keep my head up but that really uppset me.

i didnt want to deal with anyones opinion on the subject so the only people that know besides my surgeon, are my parents. If I were you, I wouldnt even discuss it with them anymore. Maybe just share with your family. Your doing FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!! you should be super proud of yourself!!!! :D

You are doing Great ! Far from Failure.... It's just that when ever they now see you, they expect to see a smaller person. This is not Bypass, it's a slow go. If you have explained all of the stats. to them, and they don't understand ! Then that's their problem...

You Owe no explanation to no one ! It's your body, and life.. See what they have to say in 6 months.....

You have nothing to feel sad about, you are doing fantastic and those people obviously have no idea what the band is. It is a tool not a miracle ! Did they think the weight would all be gone soon after surgery? You need to stay around positive people not ones who will bring you down. You need to think about yourself only now not what people are thinking about you. I actually only told one person about getting my surgery. I don't have a date yet but I'm sure I will have to tell those closest to me soon. Just not sure of the outcome. I have MS and my husband is not real happy about me having surgery of any kind so this is not a favorable thing for me to be doing.

22 pounds in 7 weeks is fantastic, I would tell those so called friends to (well I shouldn't say that here, huh?)

I know this sounds alittle evil, but I would tell your friend "Your right you better not get it" then keep doing what your doing and watch her squirm as you get skinny!!!! LOL and everytime she asks how much you have lost say "oh, still only 22 pounds....." and smile.

Don't let anyone let you think that 22 pounds isn't great because it is. :)

It's also possible that they're jealous of you and your phenomenal success! You are losing at about 3lbs a week.. lots faster than average. :)

You don't owe anybody an explanation. You're happy with your progress and that's all that matters. Keep it up! You're doing great!!

Your doing great! I am 8 weeks post op and down 28lbs. This lady at works said her cousin had the surgery the same day I had it and is down 47lbs. She kinda looked at me like whats my problem. I said good for her but everyone weighloss is different. I wish I had never told anyone but a select few. I have to go over my weightloss stats daily with coworkers. Some mean well, while others are just nosey. Hang in there and keep moving forward.

These comments come from the misconception that the band is a quick fix. I treat these times as a chance to educate and too reiterate how happy I am with my weight loss.

22 pounds in 7 weeks ROCKS!! I doubt your friends who are being dismissive of your weight loss will lose that much in the next 7 weeks. . .

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
