I have been pretty open about my surgery, everyone at my work knows about it. For the most part everyone is very supportive. Possibly a little jelousy, but not to bad yet.

Anyway, I have been pretty tight after my last fill and I get stuck pretty easy. have to be very careful on what I eat. So yesterday I was eating a little bit of bbq ribs and got really stuck to where I had to get it out with my finger (i know yuuuck) but it hurt so bad...

So I was telling the girls what I had to do (because they asked) and one of the girls said "id rather be fat than have to do that". I was like really? I wouldnt! Its not like I have to do that everyday. Its just once in a great while when it gets that bad... I usually just have to wait for it to go down, but if it hurts really bad, I have to help it get out :)

That is like the only major side effect is getting stuck and id rather have that any day than be big again!

I can't believe anyone would rather be fat than deal w/ som stuck food! I remember being terrified at the thought of getting stuck. It hurt like hell the first time it happened to me, but I got through it. I think the pain of the stuck food is nothing compared to getting this extra weight off my body. That girl made a very stupid comment.

I agree. The pain of being stuck is nothing compared to the pain of being fat. Maybe your stuck episode just scared her a bit. The first time I got stuck my kids were really upset.

I don't think it is a stupid comment. Think about all the misinformation that is out there about how the band works. There are some real horror stories and I think the fear of choking on something is a very real fear to have. A lot of people wouldn't put themselves through surgery like we have - and that may be because the people who have food issues have varying control over those issues. Some people don't want to be thin or healthy - I'm sad for those who don't want to be healthy but I think we can't put what our beliefs are about this surgery on to other people. So no, I don't find the comment stupid. She has a right to her own opinion as we all do. Until we walk a mile in someone's shoes we just don't know.

And also, one of the main reasons I haven't had a fill is because I fear getting stuck. So, I've had this surgery, went through recovery and bandster hell and luckily don't need a fill or I'd be in a real quandry.

THIS. Haven't had a fill either but have had my fun of getting stuck; thank god that's over with.

"Choke/get stuck" on your food enough and say hello to esophageal problems in the future. Go look at some of the bandsters who need their bands removed due to erosion and slipping then look at the after-effects of the band, even once it's gone. It's not just a walk in the park when 'food gets stuck.' You can easily be doing some damage.

Not chewed enough, too much at once, band too tight, and some foods just don't agree with the band. When I got stuck, I'd get a really bad pain throughout my chest and I'd actually get dizzy and see stars. It's not fun and definitely not something you want to experience.

That is one reason I don't really want to get a fill. I had one small one two months ago (5 months post op) and am hungry again, but not crazy hungry. Water usually shuts it up for a bit. Even though I now only have 0.75 cc in my band, I'm afraid to get more because I've never gotten stuck and don't want to. I'm still losing weight fine, so not sure if I want one

I think our personal choice to have received a band is our choice. I don't mind if people think I am crazy to have done this. I don't try to talk them into this and honor their own struggles and weight loss attempts. I have a friend who just had a face lift. Some of her other friends are judgmental about this procedure she had done. To each his own. My life, my choice, my band.

When I had cancer i had people tell me they would rather die than go through chemo. How stupid is that? People say stupid things all the time.

Wow, thats pretty bad! I know chemo can be hard, but if it can save your life? Weird what people will say. The girl at my work is fairly big that made the comment. Its her choice on how she wants to live her life. This is what I choose and I will live with the drawbacks of the band because the outcome is going to be worth it. I feel better already!!!

I'm dreading the day my friends see what happens when I eat too much... They'll think I'm bulimic!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
