My doc said 3 bites... maybe 6. I'm not allowed to count calories. only bites. Mine is so loose I am still able to eat an entire cup or more of food. Hopefully that will change soon.

Hope that helps. :)

What the? You're going to get all the nutrients you need from 3 bites of food? :S Oh my.

OP. A cup of food is usually prescribed but the band will not keep you from eating.

How big are these 3 bites??

My surgeon wants all me to get 3 meals or less per day. Each meal should be between 4-6 ounces, and calories should be about 1200. I have to eat my Protein first and work on leaving food on my plate (that hasn't happened yet; I eat every morsel that I serve myself).

My doctor told me to start eating off of a salad plate. Fill 1/2 of plate with Protein and eat that first. Fill 1/4 with green veggies/no starch veggies and the 1/4 with carbohydrates. Eat the salad/no starch veggies second (if still hungry) and then the carbohydrates last (only if hungry though).

This has really helped me to get an idea of portion sizes. You still get a good bit of Protein from eating off of the smaller plate. As far as portions, she doesn't really have any other guidelines, but told me to listen to my body and I would know when I was "healthy full" and not "stuffed." You can feel the difference!

That's what I was thinking... 3 bites?! I would say approximately a cup to a cup and a half. And it's true, the band will not keep you from eating.

The best way to approach it that I was taught by my nutritionist is to try to get the Protein down first, and make it the greater portion of your meal, and then veggies, then the other stuff.

Make the most nutrient dense choices for the small amount you are allowed to eat. A cup of potato chips has a lot less nutrient value than a cup of lowfat chili for example.

I would just give up eating all together is it was only three bites of food. That would suck!! I eat about a cup of food at each setting while focusing on Protein then vegs and lastly carbs. I think that big thing for me is to take my time eating. If I sit down and really take my time I dont have to use a scale I listen to my body for signals on when I am full. On another note it has foced my whole family to sit longer with me and they have slowed their eating down as well. dinner is my favorite because while the food that I eat is good the conversation is even better.

About a cup of food per meal. Sometimes a little more

Something's haywire. I'll bet if you go back and ask your surgeon, you'll find out they said (or meant) 3 OUNCES of Protein, not three BITES of food, per meal. Three bites is just crazy talk.

I eat around a cup to a cup and a half per meal, depending on what it is. Today is a light food day for me, but here's what I've eaten today:

Breakfast: RTD Premier Nutrition chocolate shake. 160 calories, 30g Protein.< /p>

Snack: Half of a "Naked" Breakfast sandwich. That's a fried egg, slice of cheese, and Breakfast sausage patty, but no English muffin. Half is about 150 calories, and has about 20g protein.

Lunch: Small serving of Wendy's chili. 220 calories, 17g protein.

Dinner: Half-sized Wendy's berry Almond chicken salad. 270 calories, 21g protein.

beverages have been coffee, iced tea, and lots of Water.

Total for the day: 800 calories, and 88g protein. Easy. And if I need a snack later this evening, I'll probably have yogurt, or maybe a cheese stick or two. I still have room in my daily count, so even if I have both, I'm still well under 1200 calories for the day.

Yep, I thought it was crazy as well. When I said I was eating 1- 1.5 cups of food and not losing any weight, she said no way, only 3 bites should be eaten. I am supposed to get my nutrients through liquid vitamins.

Holy toledo! Only 3 bites of food?! How many times a day? I cannot fathom how that would give you the nutrition you need unless you are allowed to supplement with Protein shakes or Vitamin shakes or something. I'm just amazed by that.

Even then, getting ALL of your Vitamins from a Multivitamin is NOT recommended. It's unhealthy and I can only imagine what the body is going through internally. Stuff like this makes me wonder how some doctors can practice medicine, let alone advise anyone to eat so little and say it's "okay."

You may not be losing weight, because you are having too few calories. I was told .5 to 1 cup of food, Protein should be half of the small plate, I eat off my kids plates or the appetizer size ones. And 1/4 veggies, 1/4 starch last to eat. I have not lost anything in a week and it is fustrating. I think I need to try to add more exercise and Water intake. I aver. 900 cal. A day.

I'm told to have 3 meals a day- 4 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup to 1 cup of veggies, then up to 1/2 cup of complex carbs if I have room for them. No Snacks unless I'm really hungry, then a cheese stick or another low carb high Protein snack.< /p>

3 bites... oy...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
