old navy clothing sizes?

Recommended Posts

does anyone wear old navy plus? I was wondering if anyone felt like the clothing ran tru to size or if its a little 'smaller' or 'bigger' then regular plus size clothing...

im aware that everyones different and what is snug on someone might be loose on another... but im just curious as to what people have experienced with this brand in general.

I think that Old Navy clothes even the plus size ones run small. I also think it is complicated by the fact that their pants are all cut really short in the waist -- I think that's what you call it. I mean, they are all pretty low rise. I wear a size 18 right now and I can't even fit in their size 20s. My husband wears a 2X shirt and only fits in their 2x about 1/2 the time. I ahve also found at Old Navy that if one pair doesn't fit, try another b/c theire sizing is inconsistent. It's not just you -- don't worry!

I buy old navy clothing all the time. It depends on what you buy. They run pretty close to normal plus size clothing. I have a sweater in a 1x, and it's too big, but a vest in a 2x thats too small.

I agree! Sometimes I take 4 pair of the same 18's into the dressing room because they will all fit a little different. I will inevitably find one that fits like a 20 - and so this one is the one I buy! :-) See - I get the benefit of the size 18 tag making me feel better, while in reality I'm wearing a size 20. Old Navy is good :-)

The Old Navy stores near me do not carry anything above a misses size 20, which runs smaller than a plus size 20. I'm able to fit into a few of their misses size 20 pants, but only the regular cut, not the low-rise.

Keep in mind that misses sizes start from a misses size 8 form and go up where as (I believe) plus sizes start from a plus size 16 form.

I have found that the shrink unevenly too. I can wear some 14's from there but mostly I need a 16 still, in other sizes I am in 14's consistantly. I think that some of it is from shrinking in the wash as I have a pair of 14's that fit in the store, I brought them home and washed them to wear that same day and they are too tight now. I also love their jammies, and Old Navy makes the best kids socks on the planet. I buy Old Navy only on clearance as I don't think the adult clothing is made that well. I also have a thrift/resale shop near me that gets tons of Old Navy but you really have to pick through it as there is often damage like broken zippers and missing buttons on the pants. I prefer Target's brand, it is better quality and usually cheaper too. ~Mandy

This is what I have found when I compared Old Navy size charts to Lane Bryant size charts - Old navy has almost 2 more inches in their measuremens than Lane Bryant (waist, hip)

I wear a 22 in Old Navy and a 24 in Lane Bryant for pants without any stretch and I can wear a 20 in Old Navy and 22 Lane Bryant for pants with stretch (jeans, etc)

Hmmmm, I seem opposite. I think Old Navy runs larger than normal. I have been wearing a size 12 but with Old Navy I can do some 10's. Maybe their plus sizes are smaller?

The Gap definitely runs larger though.

I LOVE Old Navy pants!!! I have several of the low rise STRETCH jeans. I can wear a 10 and I feel like I could tackle the world in those things. I tell people I don't even know, "I wear a size 10 now." I am just so happy with those pants. However, if they don't have stretch, I would be in a 12. I won't buy those because I want to fit comfy in a 10. Lets be real here and admit that sizes are ridiculous these days. I have dresses from my grandma who thought she was a size 9. They are teeny tiny!!! A size 9 from back in the day is the equvilent of a size 4 today. God, if I had been around when granny was young, I would have had to wear a burlap sack. At my largest I was a size 16. I started at 215lbs. I am at 174lbs and a wearing a medium top/ size 10 pants and shorts. People don't believe that a 174lbs person could wear a size 10. Well, its because they cut sizes extra generous to accomodate our obese society.

It's funny how a great pair of pants can make me so happy.

Legallyblonde2,

I totally agree with you on the overall sizing thing. I have a pair of 18W pants from 1995 that are the same size as a 16 (regular not plus) I bought recently. I have a formal Laura Ashley dress I bought in 1984, I think it's a size 8 or 10, my size 2 dd can hardly zip it, now I slightly recall washing it, so it may have shrunk, but not to a size 2, hee, hee. I tease my dd that soon she'll be wearing a negative size.

For years I have refered to pants that fit realy well and make me feel good as "Magic Pants." Today my mum told me that Oprah called her favorite pants "magic pants."

If I wear magic pants on a date, I have 50% more self confidence. So silly.

P.S A Laura Ashley dress!!! I wore one to my prom. Oh, the era of the gunney sack dress. Good times!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
