Recommended Posts

Hello ,

I have not posted in a while, with work and such.....

anyway, I am really pissed off.

I weighed myself today and I gained another 4 lbs... I am eating right back where I did before my band. I am really mad that my band eroded!! pissed really!! I feel ripped off!!! I paid a a ton of money for this surgery which I am still making loan payment on,and I don't even have the band anymore,,, that really ticks me off!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I will email Dr. Ortiz today and vent on him as well....I know it is up to me now.... I get that!!

I feel I have the right to me mad as hell !!

any support would be great!!!

thanks a bunch

awe Francesca, ((hugs)) I really wish I had something to offer you. But without MY band, my scale would be doing the same as yours.

Penni is going with Nutra-system (I hope she doesnt mind me sharing her business) - and my cousin just started going there as well. She has lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks... this may be an option for you?

I suggest diet pills - but alot of folks are offended by this suggestion.

This is something we are all in together - banded or unbanded!

Francesca, you DO have every right to be mad, especially since so many Lopez and Ortiz patients continue to erode. One girl even has a Mexican attorney and is suing Lopez, though I don't know how that works. There goes DeLarla, opening a new can of worms!

I'm not saying to sue Ortiz, but you have a strong argument against him that he should reband you at his cost (that is, if rebanding is an option.) He has been reasonable and fair to other patients, so pull yourself together and do some power writing. Write anything that comes to your mind and don't stop till you're all vented out. Then re-organize what you wrote into a well drafted letter to Ortiz. Give him a chance.

I've lost a few pounds since band removal, but I'm also starving most of the time. I try to count calories, and I do well during the day (by feeling starving and drinking tons of Water.) But my evening meals are larger than a normal person eats, even though most is vegetables. But still, no person needs to eat the mass quantity of veggies that I can consume in one sitting. Huge.

Go ahead and keep venting. You are angry and frustrated and we all know those two emotions can be HUGE food triggers. Vent, take action against your doc, exercise, plan your meals, do something other than excessive, unnecessary eating. Do not let a loser doc and a few pounds get the best of you.

I say you have every right to be pissed off. We are hear to let you vent away. I know it's not much help...but it's all I can think of that will help.

Getting ahold of the Dr might make you feel a little better.

Francesca I feel your pain and anger. I too went through all that and everytime I see that scale go up instead of down I go through the same emotions all over again.

I am doing the Nutrisystem meals and they do work. You have to be diligent and count those pesky calories. In fact you have to count the calories in the meals and what you supplement the meal with. That gets OLD believe me. That is why I gained back 5 lbs because I rebelled and didn't count those calories and ate junk for 4 days. SIGH!! I guess I should be happy I only gained 5 lbs. Now I have to work twice as hard to get those 5 off on top of losing more. SIGH!!

I am pissed at Lopez too. I have thought several times about sending him a letter or calling or something but then I think what good would it do other than make me feel better. Lopez and Ortiz are NOT going to do anything about what happened to us. They have their own agenda.

Well I can't speak about Ortiz actually because I have not dealt with him. I can speak about Lopez cause I have first hand knowledge about how he treats his patients with complications. It is just NOT right or ethical the way he treated us. Lopez might be a good surgeon and highly respected but his ethics leave alot to be desired. SIGH!!

Anyway, sorry Francesca for venting on your venting thread but had to or I would have exploded.

Sending you lots of HUGS and I know exactly what you are going through sister.

I know it probably wouldn't do any good to write letters to these doctors, but I would do it anyway. I would let them know exactly how you feel! With so many of you going through this, it is not an isolated thing and I would tell them that too! Voice your opinion people, nothing gets done to get things better unless we all do that!

Hi

I am so sorry you are battling like this. That said, and a lot of people are going to shout at me again,I think a lot more people will have band removals in the next few years....complications are just starting to show, really......I am just glad that they picked up that you had the erosion....I still walk with a lot of pain every day, never had an endo or upper GI for that matter and the dr still says no pain no gain.....

so good luck and I hope you can make a plan that works for you.....just dont give up fighting this......

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
