Hi all,

I was banded June 23rd. I have lost 9 lbs so far. I have been following the liquid diet and will get to progress to pureed this friday hopefully after my post-op visit. I am so ready to chew something. I also have been walking daily. I have been having trouble getting all my fluids in I think. I don't think I am dehydrated but am still not drinking what I should. I find that I am constantly sipping at Water but still not getting it in with the Protein shakes and so on any suggestions? Can I stretch my pouch from drinking liquids?

You won't stretch your pouch with liquids. They go right through. Keep sipping and sipping. I always have Water nearby.

Try some Crystal Light or other low-cal Water flavorings if you're getting sick of plain water. It's really important to drink as much as possible :)

Ok thank you I wasn't sure how the fluids went through... I am going to try a different approach today to get all my fluids in. For not eating hardly at all I am not losing what I thought I would... See what the rest of the week brings I guess...

This is what I do, and I am 23 days post op and I am averaging 70-90 oz a day of water/crystal light. First I bought a fun cup, if its astetically pleasing your more likely to look at it, I purchased one that I was about to decopage my daughters picture too. It holds 16 oz. I take 7-8 rubber bands and place them on the cup, and each time I fill it, I remove one to keep track of my Water intake. I find that through out the day if I notice its noonish, and I have 5 bands left I know to pick up my pace. Trust me, once u start getting enough of your fluids you will love the way it makes you feel. Good Luck, hope this helps!

I was banded the day after you and having the same issue. I just started cutting up lemon and cucumber in my Water pitcher, and it's a lot better than plain Water, which I've always found boring. The crystal lite is a good idea too. Easy to take with you.

Banded on the same day, too! :)

Doctor says that in the stage we are right now, it is more important to HEAL from the surgery than to concentrate on losing weight. Was your band sewn in? That takes time to heal, too.

Crystal Light is my friend for sure!!! Keep one of your 64 ounce juice bottles to make your Crystal Light in. That way, once you have finished that bottle, you have done a good job at getting your Water down. Fill it up again for the next day.

I'm not feeling any restriction like I did the first week. Dr. says that is good because it means the swelling is going down and I am healing. Wooo Hooo! Can't wait till my post op visit on Monday to see if I have lost anything since Surgery.

We need to start a JUNE 23RD Banded group! but I'm not sure how to do that. Anyone know how???

I was banded on the 16th and also had a problem getting my Water in and still do. I have found that sugar free kool-aid does the trick for me. Crystal Light is good too, but I think I burnt myself out on it through the preop diet. I also drink a lot of Propel flavored water. Good luck!

I am on a pureed diet for a few more days the only thing I have been grinding is chicken everything else just mashed... example of what I eat... today I had 1/4 c oatmeal and 1/4 cup of scrambled eggs for breakfast... lunch was stuffed zucchini with ground chicken and sauce baked in the oven had this smashed up 1/2 cup and for dinner will have 1/4 c of fish and 1/4 c of carrots...

still eating popcicles as Snacks to help get in my fluids... am doing a little better drinking the Fluid but still not getting the 60 ounces every day... and I am lacking on my Protein shakes... so this is what I am going to have to work on...

Also banded the 23rd, seems to be a popular June surgery date. :)

I don't think liquid stretches it because it doesn't really last long in the pouch. The liquid diet for 4 weeks has been the toughest for me, I feel no restriction so I'm hungry shortly after a Protein Shake.

I have found keeping a Water bottle in tow helps and diet drinks with flavor. I don't mean Crystal Lights or sugar-free Kool-Aid (I find them to taste weird), I like diet Snapple especially the diet Noni berry. Yum. The Fuze slenderize is pretty good and the bottle is less than 20 cals and 1-2g of sugar, does not contain aspartame which is a plus if you find yourself running to the bathroom from having so much.

Good luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
