Having your band unfilled

Recommended Posts

I had my band replaced after a slippage. I am now at 11cc's. My doctor says he has never filled one this much. The band isn't working for me this time and I am very discouraged. Has anyone had their band unfilled and refilled? And if so, did it help? Thanks!

What band do you have? The swedish band? The realize band? etc?

I am assuming your band is either 11cc in size or 14cc in size. If your band is 14cc in size then your not at full capacity yet. If you have the 11cc band, with an 11cc fill then you're basically full but sometimes people need an even bigger fill.

When you get fills does your doctor take your whole fill out and then put new saline + some extra back in?

For me I have a 10cc band ( used to have an 11cc band) at 10cc in my 11 cc band I didnt have a lot of restriciotn but had some. I had to work with the band a little more and eat more firmer Protein to stay full and work out to lose weight.

I know someone who had an 11cc band and had an 11cc fill. She had restriction sometimes but needed to go a little over the 11cc fill to get restriction.

I would check to make sure that you in fact have 11cc fill in your band ( if your doc doesn't take the fill out each time) My doc takes out my fill each time and replaces the saline and this gives me really good restriction ) lmot too much) at first until the fill settles.

If you do in fact have that amount in your band maybe it has come unhinged? There is someone here who complained about never getting restriction and it turned out her band was come un clipped.

If your band is ok and full with 11cc and still there is no restriction, then you might just need a little more to get to good restriction.

Also check what you are eating and your portions. More slidery foods makes us hungry faster. Try eating harder Proteins and see how that helps.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
