Hi Everyone! Well, I am 3.5 weeks post-op now and now on solids. Unfortunately I am only 4lbs down from my pre-op weight. Once I got into the mushies my body seemed to hang on to everything and I gained back the 5 lbs that I had lost during the liquid part. "sigh" I am pretty hungry and can eat more than the recommended cup of food. Looking forward to my first fill which is still 2 weeks away.

I joined a gym last week and paid for 6 sessions with a personal trainer whom I met with last night. She took me through the weight machines and 2 different abdominal crunches. My port side was a bit sore but all in all ok.

How long until we are able to safely do a full body workout?

I was banded on 7/25 and dr. told me no heavy exercise not even zumba.....until 6 weeks out. Only walking at this stage until you are fully healed. My weight loss is slow also. Lost about 16 lbs total. But I must say it is going down a little every few days and that is okay with me.

They say 2 lbs a week average is what to expect. Dont get discouraged it will come in time. Especially after a fill.

don't be too nervous about the fill, it typically takes about 5 minutes and you don't really notice a difference right away. My surgeon has me do a day of liquids then a day of mushy then back to regular meals. The first fill usually doesn't give you the restriction you've hoped for so you will be riding it out on will power once again. By now small meals are a habit and it shouldn't be quite so difficult.

I wish that I had more will power the first time around because i had stretched my pouch quite a bit, really be conscious about the amount of food you put in, even if you are still hungry stop eating and have more a few hours later after the pouch has had a chance to empty. I wish that I had been more careful.

Good luck!!

D

How can you tell if you have stretched out your pouch? I was banded July 13 and i have barely lost anything. I also know i can eat a lot of food if i let myself and i have "cheated" with eating more than i should. I go for my first fill today...and i am nervous the dr is going to say wth are you eating? :(

Let me tell you this, I walked in his office STARVING and walked out, took a sip of Water and felt like I had just eaten a full meal. Tried to eat applesauce about 3 hours later, took me 45 minutes to do so!

Hi everyone. I was banded July 20 and just had my first fill on August 16. I still don't feel much restriction, but I do get "satisfied" faster with food. I have lost 14 lbs since surgery, 28 total.

One month-iversary from being banded (Friday, July 22nd). I start mushy foods tomorrow and I'm so excited! I have been dreaming of this day since my pre-op diet started six weeks ago! I think I'm going to pull out one my kids' old baby spoons and a small ziploc container (4 oz.) to make myself realize just how much food I need to be eating. Hmm - how does Protein waters throughout the day - 1 small scrambled egg for Breakfast, cottage cheese for lunch, ricotta cheese with some spaghetti sauce for dinner - maybe a tablespoon of hummus for a snack? What do you think? Too much for the first mushy food day?

I was also banded on July 13th ... man that was a lucky day for a lot of us! LOL ... I had my first fill today. They left 4.2 CCs in during my surgery and today they added 1 .. so I'm at 5.2 CCs. Can't wait to see how well I do with a little restriction! I'm lost 12lbs since my surgery plus the 8 lost during pre-op diet .. so 20 lbs gone forever!

One month since my surgery and I am back to my pre-op weight.:( I am following the guidelines with my meals by eating Protein first, etc. But I am hungry and am not satisfied on only 1 cup of food. I know that this time is for healing, but seeing the scale move in the wrong direction is disheartening. I have a fill scheduled in 2weeks and I am looking forward to feeling restriction!

Razzcat! I'm so sorry! That's so frustrating I know! Especially when it seems as though everyone has huge losses their first month. Something that helps me is tracking my calorie intake on www.myfitnesspal.com, I use the iphone app and it's amazing. My Dr. wanted me to do 800 calories day and I was far too tired to keep up with it, so now I am doing 1000-1200 and actually starting to lose steadily and have more energy too. Keep in mind that even though we have a band, it's still calories in vs. calories out. Maybe you aren't burning as many calories as you are taking in?

Keep your spirits up, I am also a slow loser and seem to have a harder time than anyone. I totally understand your frustrations.

Hey, Nancy! I got my first fill recently and got .8 cc, which she said was "a lot" for a first fill, so I think .5 is probbaly about average.

Have you noticed a difference? I haven't.

I noticed a little more restriction but not much. I think I need more fill. I've gotten strict with my intake and am losing 1lb every day but I feel I'm still hungry. I'm on an 800 calorie intake and use the lapbandjouney.com to track my food intake and activity. I am not doing well on activity though its been way too hot to walk outside where I'm at..110 degrees yesterday! How are you doing??

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
