Had my one month bandiversary on Friday! No fills yet, but maybe on the 26th. I have noticed the hungry feeling more than before, not a fan!

I haven't had anything really bother me, so I was wondering does it bother you after you have a fill, or is it safe for me to assume that these foods are ok for me?

I've been very careful to make good high Protein choices.

I have to ask, does anyone have lingering issues with Constipation? I'm actually in pain today because things aren't working like they should.

Hope you are all doing well!!

Deb

Attention Self payers -

Did anyone else have their pre surgical testing denied from their insurance? I went into this thinking that my presurgical testings would be covered under my insurance plan - having them be a part of a health physical, no biggie, right? Now I am getting bills from all over and calling into my insurance, I am finding that my abdominal somogram should only be recommeded for people above 65 who smoked, I am neither of those things!!! uuuggghhhh. So here goes another couple thousand dollars.

so...I'm 16 days out and have only lost 2lbs...i dont know how that is possible since i've only been eating 500-800 calories a day and still on full liquids and really mushie type foods. I suppose because i'm a rebander, my body is already used to cutting calories drastically.

I got a bodybugg a week ago and let me tell you, it is so motivating to see how many calories I am burning. my kids went back to school today so I went back to the gym, it felt great to jog again, I pretty much took the summer off.

I hope everyone here is doing fantastic! Keep up the losses, it's motivating to see people doing well.

Danielle

I too am eating between 500 and 800 calories a day. My doctor wants me to eat only 8 ounce of mushy food a day. It is way too little. I feel so weak and tired all the time. I eat a shake around 11, a can of soft vegatables and 3 ounces of chicken. i've lost 12 pounds but I'm almost a month post op. It is very hard to continue to starve yourself when you are not seeing any results. I'am getting my first fill in 1 week hoping for some answers.

Warning for TMI: has anyone else's sex drive gone through the roof? I'm seriously distracted by this! I'm completely consumed by this spike in my libido. My poor DH doesn't know what to do. This is great exercise, though.

Just curious if any of you is having this issue? I remember having the same problem a few years ago when I got really skinny. It didn't go away until I got pregnant and stayed fat. Meanwhile, I feel hormonal changes in regards to my TOM, less acne (yea!) and an out of the blue desire to have a baby. This is insane, but the ride is fun.

I heard its very easy to get pregnant, so FYI if your not trying. :)

don't be too nervous about the fill, it typically takes about 5 minutes and you don't really notice a difference right away. My surgeon has me do a day of liquids then a day of mushy then back to regular meals. The first fill usually doesn't give you the restriction you've hoped for so you will be riding it out on will power once again. By now small meals are a habit and it shouldn't be quite so difficult.

I wish that I had more will power the first time around because i had stretched my pouch quite a bit, really be conscious about the amount of food you put in, even if you are still hungry stop eating and have more a few hours later after the pouch has had a chance to empty. I wish that I had been more careful.

Good luck!!

I was self pay, but I've never provided my insurance info. I paid $400 so for my testing (pre op labs, spirogram, ekg), but that came off of the cost of my surgery. I didn't use my insurance for anything. I would contact your doctor's office and ask them to rebill under a different ICD-9 code or something. That's crazy....if it was a belly sonogram, the doc should have coded it as abdominal pain or something so it would be covered. I'd be PISSED!!!

Hello Everyone!

I had the Lap Band Surgery in 2008 and I now live in Sasebo, Japan because my spouse is in the Navy. I moved to Japan in July of 2011 and I was told that there's no one here in Sasebo, Japan that will be able to give me a fill. Can some one please tell me what doctors are here in Japan that deals with the lap band?

yay we're "band twins"!! I too was banded on 7/13/11! Got my first fill yesterday with 4cc and omg am I feeling the restriction!! Let me tell you this, I walked in his office STARVING and walked out, took a sip of Water and felt like I had just eaten a full meal. Tried to eat applesauce about 3 hours later, took me 45 minutes to do so!

There is hope for restriction after the first fill!

Hi Everyone! Well, I am 3.5 weeks post-op now and now on solids. Unfortunately I am only 4lbs down from my pre-op weight. Once I got into the mushies my body seemed to hang on to everything and I gained back the 5 lbs that I had lost during the liquid part. "sigh" I am pretty hungry and can eat more than the recommended cup of food. Looking forward to my first fill which is still 2 weeks away.

I joined a gym last week and paid for 6 sessions with a personal trainer whom I met with last night. She took me through the weight machines and 2 different abdominal crunches. My port side was a bit sore but all in all ok.

How long until we are able to safely do a full body workout?

I am fighting with my band and the band is going to win.

I got my first fill last Monday. I am having issues with regurg. I know why every time...it's habit and head stuff. I will get it through my head that I can't eat as fast or as much as I used to and that I must chew chew chew chew. :( I'm discouraged and sad.

I had 5.4 in before my fill and they added 2cc...so I'm at 7.4 cc in a 14cc band. Anyone else having similar issues? Is this normal? Am I a failure? Ugh.... :(

I had my first fill today. It turns out that my doctor left .8 cc in my band when he did the surgery. The PA added 3 cc to that for a total of 3.8cc in my 10cc band. My band type is "ALS" which is the standard size. Who knew?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
