Recent surgical patient worried about slippage

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery a little under 2 weeks ago. A couple days ago I started advancing my diet too quickly, I've had a few slices of bread and a bit of cheese. Today was my biggest mistake so far, I had to english muffins with cheese. I am extremely embarrassed and angry with myself, but my biggest concern is that I've messed up the band with this mistake. I feel well enough right now, but I'm really worried, should I contact my doctor? How will I know for sure if the slip has occurred?

Thanks for your help

Call your Dr if it will make you feel better but from what I've read if you can keep food and liquids down you're fine. Just go back to what you're supposed to be doing. Your stomach is still healing and it needs to not be working that hard.

I doubt your band slipped. My NP told me that you wouldn't even be able to get down Water if your band slipped.

I doubt you've slipped but STOP PUSHING IT! Not trying to be harsh but seriously! Please give yourself a chance to be successful. Don't screw it up before you've lost the weight.

You CAN do this!

My doctor says that you will know if there's a slippage because you won't be able to keep anything down and there would be pain. You'll just know something isnt right.

Furthermore, tomorrow is a new day like you said.

Good luck :)

I think you are just fine. I was on solids 2 weeks out and had no problems. My doc. said full liquids for a week, then mushies for a week, then onto solids. Seems like a lot of doctors call for more times on liquids/mushies. I would call your doctor and see if you can progess on to solids. On a side note, be careful about bread. It's an easy food to get stuck, and has lots of carbs. Congrats on your surgery and good luck.

My doc said no bread of any type forever! I'm 3 weeks post op and am now on regular food. I've had a couple episodes of "stuck". Talk about pain. It happened when I ate too fast and didn't chew enough. Needless to say I am now very careful!

(FYI) My nurse said to drink pineapple juice if something is stuck, I carry a small can (single serving) in my purse for emergencies.

I have never heard of pineapple juice.. What is the reasoning? Can you actually drink anything when something is stuck?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
