Scared! my port hurts/burns

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm being paranoid, maybe I'm having sympathy symptoms. But my port area is very tender and has twingy sharp pains and burns/stings at times. My 14lb doggy did step right on it one night while I was laying in bed, but that was about 2 weeks ago. I also had a MAJOR pb about 3 weeks ago followed by a week of terrible heartburn, that is gone for the most part, but I'm scared that something is wrong. I emailed my follow-up/fill Dr. but he never wrote me back. Any advice or ideas what this could be?

It may be nothing, or it may be something. You should try again to get in touch with your doctor. A suture may have torn, or it may be an incipient infection. Monitor it closely and when you do get in touch with Dr. Kuri, tell him in detail what your symptoms are.

Good luck!

I'm also 2 weeks post op. Remember you just went through quite a surgery. Your incisions will take MUCH longer to heal than two week and especially your port site.

If you are concerned that you have an infection - hot, oozing to the extreme - you should call your doctor and report this. Maybe you should anyway because you seem a little lost as to what to expect. (I'm not trying to be mean - just want you to feel less confused/scared).

As far as the stinging or other odd sensations inside the incision of your port - I expect that is going to go on for awhile.

You are in the very early stages of healing.

Good luck to you!

Patti

:embarassed: I'm sorry I misread your date as having had surger 1/13/06 - not 05.

You must think I'm nuts.

I take it all back and beg your pardon!

Hi

I am 9 months out and still get portpain for no reason.Sometimes it is food related (gas definitely affects it)sometimes pants pressure on port, sometimes no reason......sometimes I can feel my band when the port is painful and sometimes when I have eaten even a little to much it aches....it seems to be a fragile thingy as my dr keeps telling me this is normal......

Infection isn't good, so let's hope it's tender from your furbaby incident. But make sure to see your doc. Kuri had to remove my first port due to infection, so keep an eye on the area for redness, heat or swelling.

Somewhere in the forums I read that we shouldn't pick up anything over 10 pounds for the first six weeks. The port is stitched to a thin layer of muscle covering and can easily be pulled away until scar tissue begins to form and attach to the port, making it much more secure. Even then it is possible to pull it a bit.

I had hernia surgery with my band surgery. They put a piece of mesh under the muscle. The tissue grows in and around the mesh to secure the muscle. About a week ago I stood up and dang near dropped to the floor when it pulled from the tissue. It was a burning, stinging sensation just like youre describing. So that's probably what's happening. Be sure to take it easy, keep trying to contact your doc and find out if you should be seen. Watch your temp, and for any other signs of infection.

As for the PB and heartburn. Are you eating soft foods that are easy to digest? Eating slowly? Chewing your food until it's goo? Be sure to do exactly as your doc tells you. Thinking we can get around the rules is only going to end up hurting ourselves.

Best of luck to you!

yes the doctor said nothing over 20 lbs for 6 weeks; i think i could have pulled something or the port can move on its side too and remain there; all i know is that i am very very sore on the left side where the port is;

I had bad port infections for a year, but I never felt any pain. You should get to your doctor ASAP to have a pro take a look, k?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
