Insurance United HealthCare UHC - Approval Process at 35 BMI

Recommended Posts

Just wonder if anyone out there had UHC Choice Plus and had to go through the approval process. I have a BMI of 35 and 2-3 co-morbidities. What did they require from you for approval? I know all people are different but I'm sure for the most part UHC's guidelines should be the same. I want to be prepared for my first visit.

I have UHC choice plus. I was told that MOST UHC plans require a 6 month supervised diet before approval. My insurance is through my husband's work. My husband's work doesn't put strict criteria on weight loss surgery. My BMI was 37 and I had sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I was approved within one week of my papers being submitted. I did have to do a dietician eval and psych eval first though.

thanks so much, I thought so, but thought I'd ask, I have been under 2 doctors with 6 months supervised weight loss programs in the last 12 months so hoping I should get through ok! Congrats on the weight loss!

I also have the UHC choice plus. The insurance agents did tell me that my company has among the most lenient they have ever seen. It did go very well because I had the BMI greater than 35 and comorbidities. Good luck with having yours done quickly.

Hi Kat,

Post this on the pre op thread too - you might get more responses. Best wishes!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
