is it ok to start going to the gym 5 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I have started walking at 3 weeks post op...that's not really moving the scale...I want to start doing some light workouts in the gym...will it be ok to go ahead and start at 5 weeks post op?

they say 6 weeks to be able to do "anything" so at 5 weeks if you start out slow you should be fine.

Yes you can get to the gym.

Lift weights that are heavy enough that you can only lift them 8-10 times before you can't lift more.

Most people make the mistake of starting small with 10 lbs or less, but think about it - if you carry a kid around, grocery bags, anything more than 30 lbs, then you shouldn't be using 10 lbs weights.

Talk with a personal trainer at the gym to get a plan, or go up to someone who looks like you want to look and ask them if you can have some time with them to talk about how they got to where they are because you want to get there too. They may not be able to meet with you that day but it's unlikely they'll say no.

I started going back to the gym 2 weeks after surgery which was last weekend. Been to the gym 4 times since, so far so good. Doing 30 min of cardio and 20-30 of weights. Feeling very good so far.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
