I was fine and itching to get out...but I needed at least 1-2 naps a day for a week or so.

That is still freshly stitched.. If someone caused a accident, well,,,, I'm not sure what would happen. You could even end up losing the band.

Blood Clot is a major concern.

You will need pain killers.

I think you should get your surgeons 2 cents.

Make him aware of this, and see what he says....

I just got the call!!!!!!!

I am so excited and scared and every other emotion that goes along with that :) So my question is....I can suppose to have surgery on May 24th however my husband and I have tickets for a baseball game that is about 5 hours away from where I live, so we will drive there and back and spend the weekend in the City. So I would have surgery on Tuesday and then leave for the game on Saturday morning....Do you think that is too much to do after having the lap band surgery????

Thanks so much!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but is a game really that important? I rather get my surgery done.... I just can't imagine re-scheduling such a big and important appointment for a baseball game...

Hello, I scheduled my surgery to coincide with a big antique show we do inTexas called Round Top. I have a friend who told me she didn't have any issues so I figured I could have my surgery on fir day and help with the show on Wednesday. Boy was I wrong. I wasnt even taking pain meds. I drove about 6 blocks and was so shaky I had turn back. I did get out and shop for a few minutes at a local store that day but then had to go home and sleep. I did go to the show for the last day on Saturday but even that was a little much and I didn't have to drive.

It depends on what kind of person you are and how fast you bounce back. I drove myself 4 hours home on my third day and went back to work on the 4th day. I am one of those people that don't let things get me down so I was fine. I did stop every hour and walk around. (to help prevent those clots). If you have had any kind of surgary to compare this to, this is an easy one. I had 4 c-sections, galbladder and 3 cancer operations, so this one was very easy......good luck

That is ambitious, but I know how it feels to get to see your favorite team! Take plenty of pain meds and don't expect to be doing any heavy nights on the town. I would keep the surgery date and trade the tickets if you can.

Being the huge baseball fan that I am my first impulse is to say GO TO THE GAME! But after I saw where you lived and checked the schedule, I'm assuming its a Twins/Angels game! With the way the Angels are playing this year and the problems your M and M boys are having, your team is probably going to lose anyway!!! LOL. Seriously though, You should either push your surgery back a week or skip the trip. One week isn't really going to make a difference!

My biggest concern would be sitting for 5 hours with the possibility of a blood clot. I would speak with your doctor. Personally I probably would have been find to go out of town. I was very lucky in regards to pain and was only on liquid tylenol. On day 5 I went back to the gym. I will say however that I did tire easily and was taking a nap every day the first week.

I definitely wouldn't be able to do that trip after having surgery that soon. Plus, the doc told me that you arent supposed to travel in a car for more than 20 minutes at a time without stopping to walk for a while because of the very serious risk of blood clots in your legs. I was like the others, i completely underestimated the seriousness of the surgery. Good luck on your surgery, and try not to push yourself too hard after you get it!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
