gastric band in brussels in may 2011

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, going to brussels in may 2011, excited ,nervous , not quite sure what to expect !! ( read up alot tho) going to see Dr Chris De Bruyne

Good write ups on him, be good to hear from someone who had had a gastric band via him and his team. Feels quite extreme going to brussels but due to finances and reading good things about Brussels I thought I would go for it !! any one else going in May ? going by euro star takes you quite close to the area I need for the op. Be good to hear from others going and others feedback who have been to Dr Chris Bruyne. thanks for looking

Just stick to a ,low fat diet of chicken, fish, J.Pots, salads etc etc. Try to up the Protein intake too as it will help you recover faster. Go and get some Body Building Suppliments - whey Protein and take a shake or two a day. Up ya Vitamins too in readyness. My scars are healed over just after 1 week except for one. Getting stitches removed today. Ill post some pics up tonight.

Hi there I'm hopefully going to Brussels on 12 july for mine. Haven't paid my deposit yet I've got a few days left to think about it! I hope I don't get talked out of it by well meaning relatives and friends. Mine is costing £3950 and Chris de bruyne apparently doesn't take anything other than cash - is it safe to carry this amount of cash from Belfast to Brussels ? Not with my track record it isn't . I'm loving reading all your experiences although some can be a bit explicit but it's all good cos nobody ever tells you the gory details and I think it's important to know what to expect. It's a really personal experience and everybody seems to love their band. It's part of them.

I have recently had a nightmare with a company advertising in the UK as a Ltd company. Despite winning a court case against them I cannot get my money back as they are in Belgium. I have just discovered they are expanding to Ireland. If you ever get an e-mail from a Tullia Law - run as fast as your feet can carry you.

The one that ripped me off for €4150 ishttp://www.gastric-banding-surgery.co.uk but she has 11 other companies in UK France & Ireland.

I don't expect you to believe me but google earth the addresses - UK is basically a P O Box number with over 50 companies registered there. The French address in Calais is a flat over a shop not a Clinic. All telephones will go to an answer machine in France and you will be called back. No signed contract or T&Cs will be signed or issued to you.

Good Luck & God Bless

That site really looks dodgy to say the least. This is not the company Many of us dealt with thanks god and have nothing put praise for the Hospital and DR Chris De Bryune and Fred. Just goes to show - you must do your homework and take good advice from others who have done it successfully.

Firstly congrats to all on this thread who either have or are having band with Dr Chris. He's great. Hopefully my ticker says it all.

He will take a bank transfer and this can be paid in one go directly with Frederik into the bank in Belgium. I paid all of mine upfront before I went in July 2010 as I didn't want to carry the cash.

As you say it is a personal experience but you will find lots of positive support on here and another thread "Does anyone know Dr Chris de Brueyne" do a search for Belgium and it will come up.

I love having my band and my journey over the last 10 months has been interesting. Please feel free to read my journal and ask any questions you may have.

Tonight, I am celebrating with a lovely glass of rose because I am in a size 12 trousers and top and I have 13 pounds to go until I reach my target weight of 106.5 pounds loss. So a very happy bunny who is so pleased she went and spent the money so wisely!

Enjoy your journeys and please let us know how you all get on.

Take care

Claire x

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
