I think this may be a crazy question, but here it goes. I love dill pickles. I buy them from the store, and in the summer I plant a garden and grow my own cuccumbers to pickle. I have heard that after surgery, fruit and vegetable skins are had to get down. Do you guys think I will be able to eat pickles? They are a lot softer once they are pickled. :) Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks, Michelle

PS I am being banded May 17th. I start my liquid diet May 3rd. :)

Pickles are not on my do not eat list. Raw cucumbers with skin are though. I love pickles too. They satifsy me like potato chips when eating a sandwich at a much less calorie cost.

Your nutritionist most likely will go over the yes and no foods with you once you get to solids.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if we're suppose to avoid them or not but I eat both pickles and freshly cut cucumbers w/ranch dressing all the time. Cucumbers go well with my tuna at lunch. I haven't had any problem with the skins at all. I just chew really well. I have 5.5cc's in a 10cc band atm. Not sure if it will change if I get more in my band but so far so good!

Hey, thanks for the replys! I was hoping that I still got to eat them. My kids love them too. We made about 5 batches of pickles from our garden cuccumbers last summer, and I would like to do even more this summer. :)

I would die without my pickles. My daughter and I go through a big jar of them each month.

I even drink the pickle juice, and I had it when I was on my liquid portion of the diet and craving pickles.

I think for the most part what we can or can't eat after banding is subjective. I personally don't like pickles, but I think if you take smaller bites and chew very well you will be find. I can eat cucumbers as long as they are cut up small. biggrin.gif

I can not say yes or no because everyone tolerates food differently. I am able to tolerate pickles. I take just a few small slices when I make myself a veggie burger. Just remember to eat in small pieces and chew very well.

I too love pickles.. I have 8cc's in my band and have no problems eating them. I use them for a snack in place of chips when I am craving something salty. Good luck to you.

Every now and then, I will have 2 Gerkin pickles. Now they are much more crunchy, I think.

Anyway,,, I chew, and chew until it's mush, and then swallow it.

So if you take small bites, and pulverise it would say yeagh it can be done. Just not all the time.

I love pickles also and I can eat them just fine. I can still eat raw cucumbers too.

You know what's good? Peel a cucumber and cut it into sticks by cutting out the middle. Then pickle the sticks. That's my favorite:)

Are you making sweet or dill pickles?

I've never had a nutritionist tell me I couldn't eat anything.. they make suggestions about better choices, but I've never had any food item forbidden.

I eat pickles every day. I have no fill so I don't know if that's why I can or not. Kosher baby dills are my evening snack. I didnt eat then much before my band but now I crave them!

I eat pickles everyday! LOVE THEM would prob go crazy with out them! Just watch the sodium! esp up to a month after surgery you dont want to dehydrate due to the sodium. But i ate relish in my mushy stage week 3-6!

Hi Michelle :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE pickles! Thankfully I've never had a problem eating them <3 . I wish you the best.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
