That's weird that I have started the first topic under this heading, but here goes....my surgery date has been set for May 4th. I am both excited and scared out of my wits. I have a ton of weight to lose and right now it just seems impossible. I am still going back and forth in my head, wrestling with questions of am i really going to do this? With the exception of being fat, I have zero co-morbidities, so i'm worried that I am having myself kinda sliced and diced for no real reason, OTHER than the fact that I cannot lose this weight on my own. I will have to wrap my head around it soon as my liquid diet begins 1 week from today, April 20th.

anyway, enough about MY fears and worries......

Are there any other May 2011 bandsters here? who's with me?

Hi there! I am TOTALLY excited that you and I have the exact SAME surgery dates! I will be going in for surgery around 7:30 A.M. May 4th.

Don't be scared! Be excited and look forward to new beginnings. That's exactly what I am doing. My husband is the only one who knows

and he has been so support with pre-op dieting and hearing me vent about my future as the true "skinny" me.

I'm also excited about keeping a daily journal and taking weekly photos to see my progression. My weight losses are so temporary and

I usually gain it all back once I have quit the program.

I would love to be a chat buddy if you're interested! :) Good luck with everything!

I can relate. I am not someone who takes surgery lightly. I have about 80 pounds to lose. I have decided that this is all going to be worth it. Once the weight starts dropping, all of the pain will take a backseat. I start my pre-op diet April 19. Right now I just want to get through those two weeks. The decision to get the surgery has become my new goal. I want to live the rest of my life as normal as possible. I don't like how I feel and look now. I'm tired of being the fat one in the room. I am going to keep a weekly photo diary and measurements so I can truly appreciate what is happening to my body.

Hi guys, thanks for posting. I think my excitement at the possibility of losing weight is being overshadowed by my fear at this point. I am just overwhelmed with fear. I am trying so very hard to not let my brain take me to scary places. I'm a little worried about the food part of it and what i will and won't be able to eat, but i'm more worried about what happens when i'm 60. I'm 36 right now, and I don't know what this thing is going to do inside of me, and who knows what kind of insurance i'll have 25 years from now to take care of it. I know that this isn't what everyone else is thinking about, but I'm obsessing over it. anyway, i am trying to push those thoughts from my mind and just tell myself that if worse comes to worse, i'll have the surgery reversed. i hope it doesn't come to that, and I hope this surgery can stop the hunger monster that rages inside of me. I have a lot of weight to lose, but honestly i would be happy if i didn't lose a single pound, i just don't want to gain any more weight.

At any rate, we are going grocery shopping today to load up on all the Protein shake stuff that i have to have for my 2 week diet. this is becoming real and i am trying not to chicken out.

I am and feel exactly the same as you. My surgery is scheduled for May 1th and I started the milk diet yesterday. I have no co-morbidities either I can lose weight but can't keep it off and I always gain what I lost and more beside. I feel fit and healthy and am worried that I am going to leave hospital a poorly person dependant on hospitals and drugs...but I am thinking of my future self and no if I don't shift this weight then I wil have problems one day.

I started my liquid diet today. The first 30 minutes were a breeze, but now i'm hungry. I feel a rumbly in my tumbly

I am just trying to drink lots of Water to fill my belly up. only 13 more days after today.

What are you taking for your liquid diet right now??

today, i am doing 8 (8.25 ounce servings) of Muscle Milk Light chocolate. i will probably do the MML for the next few days because the other things i have (Glucerna and Slim Fast) are in 14 oz servings, so i can only have 5 of those per day. while it ends up being the same amount, the mental thought that i can have 8 of something vs. 5 of something is calming to me...that's just the way my mind works. i am kinda tricking myself. since the first 3 days of any diet is the hardest, i thought i would do my 8 serving things until i kinda get used to it and can move to the 5 serving things. (does that make any sense?)

anyway, that's what i'm doing, supplimented with a cup of salad and Jello for lunch.

tonight, i'll have some broth and another cup of veggies and more Jello and a popsicle.

that's all i will have for today. sadly.

I have to say that, surprisingly, i am not really hungry. i am putting soooo much liquid into my body that it's difficult to get the shakes down. i went to bed a little bit uncomfortable from all of the liquid, then had to get up to pee around every couple of hours

i really, really, really, WANT a cheeseburger, but i'm so full that i have nowhere to put it..sooooooo...just 12 more days after today. i hope i can last.

I have been fairly low on energy, but I've been doing my best to conserve as much as possible. i went for my pre-admission testing today and that just about wore me out. of course, i had only had 190 calories at that point. it's 2:00pm and I just now got back home, so i'm about to have another shake. hope that gives me a little bit of a boost. right now, i am really battling being tired, but not really battling hunger at all. i think that surprised me a lot. i figured i would be writhing on the ground in pain from my stomach begging for food, but so far, so good. i do wish i had a little more energy though. it's only day 3 for me, so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

oh, and as an added bonus, when they weighed me for my pre-op test, i had lost 9 pounds. i know it's all Water, but still 9 pounds. that means i'm doing something right.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
