Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I have tried tons of Protein and nearly vomited with some. An acquaintance who recently had surgery gave me a scope of this and I fell in love! It's called Hydro-Whey and I get it at GNC. I buy the chocolate and toss in just a small amount of instant coffee and it tastes just like a mocha. It mixes so well in cold milk and I can down it quickly. It's 30 grams of Protein, 2 carbs, 0 sugar! I have yet to find anything that tastes better or is as good nutritional. I highly recommend it and would totally be a spokesperson for it! :-D

I put my scope in a water bottle and fill with milk and instant coffee crystals if desired. shake and done! I will make multiple drinks for work and pull them out, re-shake and they are good to go!

Can you send me the recipe you used? I get banded next week and need to stock up on my items. :)

OMG, I just tried the suggestion of adding some suger free pudding to the shake. Yummy!! I added one teaspoon to my regular Muscle Milk and I feel like I'm drinking a McDonald's milkshake. Sooo good.

If you like iced latte/coffee drinks (Frappachinos etc), try this one!

My kids (5 & 8) and husband ask for their own when I make mine, which is a pretty good endorsement.

1 scoop Protein powder, vanilla or chocolate flavor (I like nectar Sweets, personally)

1 tsp instant coffee granules

1 cup to 1-1/2 cups cold skim milk or Water (milk adds more Protein, but Water works, too)

1 tbsp flavored liquid or powdered coffee creamer, sugar free

Ziz it all together in a blender, magic bullet, or with a shaker bottle. Drink it as is or served over ice.

For a decadent treat, top with SF whipped cream ~ heaven!

Delicious!! Really, there is nothing horrific or torturous about THIS protein shake. If you like coffee drinks, you will LOVE this!

Getting in all the protein you need is hard enough, why make it taste awful, too?!? Drink up & enjoy!

The only one that I've like is Myoplex Original (300 calories 42g of Protein)

You can get it on Amazon for a good deal.

I use the same and I get them from sams club for about 29 dollars for a 12 back. I like mixing the instant coffee with it, it takes like a frapachino!

Does anyone have or know where I can find on the web some Protein shake recipes that are high in Protein, but have 5 or less grams of carbohydrates? I'm just not a big fan of the pre-mixed shakes out there on the market.

Try Syntrax Nectars. Most are 23 grams protein, 90 to 100 calories and 0 carbs. www.si03.com call or write the company and ask about samples, they will usually send you some at about 1.00 per packet and no shipping.

I started buying Protein Shakes from Market America for their Transitions Diet here is the link for the shakes. http://www.marketame...tion_shakes.htm There really good and don't have that power chalky texture and they fit into the low glycymic with the high Protein for the pre-op and post-op requirements. If you order please put in the shonnee22@yahoo.com refered you. I actually will order both the chocolate and vanilla and mix them together. For 14 servings it is 29.95 which isn't bad at all. This shake when mixed with Skim Milk has 26g of protein.

I have tried many, many different Protein Shakes, and the one I like the best is Muscle Milk Lite chocolate. I buy them at costco in a 24 pack of 8 oz. ready to drink shakes. I use these as Meal Replacements for Breakfast and lunch (with a midmorning snack of 2 oz of raw almonds). They keep me full and are satisfying. I have found that by not eating much solid food during the day gives me much better control at night. I have lost 115 lbs, and I am 5 lbs below my goal weight.

I might have already said this but I like Premier Protein drinks which they have in the chocolate flavor at costco. They taste like sweet milk (not horrendous nasty stuff like most) and they are 30 gms of Protein and 160 calories. I order the vanilla and the strawberry from the company and have had one every morning for a couple of years...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
