Banded 3/4, Questions!

Recommended Posts

So 10 days out, first day back at work (boo :( lol). My energy level is not great but that is to be expected I suppose. I am getting about 25g of Protein and my 64 oz of liquids. I start pureed on Friday. I lost 31 lbs pre-op and then I've lost 16 lbs since surgery, I'm not complaining and I know I am not eating, but I hope that 16 in 10 doesn't seem too fast.

My question as I start pureed on Friday...how much did you all find yourselves eating at 2 weeks out? I doubt I'd eat the full recommended 3/4-1 cup on-going portion, yet I'm not hungry to know what is proper.

Also, if something gets stuck, what did it feel like? Does vomitting always follow?

My Vitamin B that I take is the only one that I can't find in chewable, does it exist? I found liquid vitamin B, and going to get some because I am so scared I cut the B down into like 8 pieces and then it takes me forever to take it! And although I cut it down quite a bit, sometimes I feel like I can feel it.

Let me know your experiences. Overall my road has been pretty smooth thank God! :)

70 lbs to go!

Wow, you are doing fantstic! I don't know about the Vitamin D but as far as the eating goes, I made myself a cup and ate what I could. I would put a cup of say cottage cheese in a bowl and would just try to eat what I could. If I didn't finish it, it was fine. Slowly I did start to want it all and even more to be honest.

As far as getting stuck, that only happened to me once I had a few fills and it felt like I had to burp but instead of only air coming out, the food I just swallow came up too. It isn't like throwing up in the sense that there is bile too. Just what you just swallowed. To try and avoid this, take very small bites to begin with.

Good luck!

I to measured out about a cup of food and at first I was not hungry at all. Then over the last few days I have actually started wanting it all and then some. I had an episode where I ate too much thick Soup and it kind of had a burning feeling in the middle of my chest. I too burped and the food come up with it. its not really considered vomiting to me because there was no bile or horrible heaving involved. LOL. THANK GOODNESS! But as far as the mushies go it pretty easy to maintain with it. I gained 1 lb back over the last week because I started eating different things. *and started TOM and want EVERYTHING under the sun* but i stay on track with my 1 cup of food. The nutritionist told me if i need more than 1 cup just spread it out and make sure its the right choices that im eating more of. to know that i am full...i usually have to hiccup but they say everyone has a different full feeling. GOOD LUCK congrats on your weight loss so far!!!

First of all, one of the reasons you are so tired is that your Protein levels aren't high enough. You need to increase your Protein and you will start to have more energy. As far as quantities of food to eat - when I started I was eating about 1/2 cup because I really wasn't very hungry but by the time I finished my 2 weeks on mushies I was eating about 1 cup of food per meal.

Your weight loss is great but don't be surprised to see it slow down (and possibly stop) when you start introducing food back into the mix...that is very common.

As far as being stuck goes, I have only been stuck about 3-4 times and only once did I vomit (and that was only last week). Each time, I was eating meat that was on the dry side, took too big of a bite and didn't chew it enough. For me, the food usually passes through - it is uncomfortable...I get a pain in the middle of my chest but the one time I vomited I was just so uncomfortable I went in the bathroom and coughed and the food came up - if I had given it time I'm sure it would have passed on its own (it was salmon) but I felt so bad that I wasn't willing to wait it out .

Thanks everyone for the comments!

My Doc told me to just worry about getting 20ish grams since I'm only having liquids, to increase to 40 at mushies & then eventually 60 grams from there, and of course I'd be eating too to get those... so soon!

Good to know on the weight loss, if it does stall, I wonder how long before it picks back up? Perhaps till the first fill. I kind of hope to be one of those people that doesn't need any fills. Wishful thinking maybe.

Anyway, thanks again!

It's funny how different surgeons want different things. I was told 80-120g Protein even when on liquids. My Protein Powder has 25 per scoop so it wasn't hard to do. My weight loss stalled for about 2 weeks when I went to full solids and I found that I had to increase my calories to start losing again...I was putting my body into starvation mode by only eating about 700 per day. Ive since settled out at 1100-1200 per day and that is working for me...everyone is different so if you do stall try increasing your calories a bug until you find the right level for you.

Yes, it is crazy! Like how some of these people are eating 7 days later, I wouldn't dare! Wow that is a ton of protein!

Thanks for the tip! That makes sense but something I probably wouldn't have thought of! We're so conditioned to cut cut cut! I think our nutritionist recommended 1000-1200. I would imagine some days it is hard to get it that high especially in the beginning. Anxious to start the pureed stage Friday!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
