Is this restriction?

Recommended Posts

Got my first fill Thursday, 5 days ago. Since then I have much decreased appetite and can consume very little at a time. I definitely feel like I must chew carefully now. My question is, is this restriction or just from swelling still? Can I expect this feeling to last me for the next few weeks until I get another fill? Thanks!!!

While what you are feeling is most likey from the swelling, that is what restriction will feel like once it is achieved. Hopefully it will last you for another week or so, and if you are one of thelucky few maybe you are at restiction...so far for me the 10th fill was the magic one that has given me lasting restriction.

My doc is conservative with fills. The most ever was 1cc. I now have 6.25 in a 10cc band. For the first time since 3 months after surgery I feel like I have a band that is working to help me.

Is this your first fill? My doctor says two things can happen: a fill can give you restriction and within two weeks subside or it can take two weeks for it to hit. My last fill took me to 10cc and at first I def had more restriction than now but there is still some. My TOM is pretty messed up so it's hard to tell what is band and what is internal swelling. If it's been 5 days I would'nt say it's swelling from the fill, more likely you are feeling tightening from the fill. As mentioned about hard to tell whether that will contine.

Everyone is different. i use to read the posts about restriction and get quite discouraged because alot of people were saying that it took 5, 6, 7, 8 or more fills before they achieved restriction. I was banded on June 10, 2010. I have lost 57 lbs. as of today. Like most bandsters I lost a good amount of weight in the first few weeks (about 23lbs.) but then I went through bandster hell when it felt like I had no band at all. I had my first fill in August. (3cc's) I felt slight restriction for about a week then nothing. I was very discouraged at this point. I had not lost a pound in weeks. Then In Oct. I went for my second fill my dr. was quite aggressive he put in 5cc's! I now had 8 cc's in my 10cc band. I remember the nurse and dietician being quite upset with the dr. for putting in so much, they did not agree with the amount, they said I would be miserable and would probably end up coming back for an unfill. But none-the-less, I was excited at finally having some restriction, so I made my 2 hr. drive back home from the dr. and was hoping and praying that this would give me good restriction.

BOY did it ever! I couldn't eat anything at first even drinking fluids was difficult. I was very uncomfortsable, but thwas my fault, i tried to eat things I shouldn't and I had never really learned to chew, chew, chew and eat very small bites. Well, I got a crash course quick! I HAD to learn to slow down! I came so close to having an unfill. I even called several times and talked to the dieticain. I even made an appt., for an unfill because I just hated the feeling of not being able to eat. But at the last minute I cancelled my appt. and decided to try to work harder to get used to the restriction. I now love my restriction! I feel like I have found my sweet spot! I do not think about food all the time. I enjoy eating healthy! and I have FINALLY learned how to eat slowly, and properly. My weight loss has been a little slow, but it is steady and I feel great! I am down 57 lbs. I don't really have a "number goal" I just want to lose until I feel my best. I have not had any fills since my second one. So, be encouraged! you can achieve restriction in just a couple of fills..just remember each one of us are different and dr.'s fill at different amounts. I LOVE MY BAND!

That is so awesome! I do expect this restriction to wear off, but I hope it doesn't! I would be thrilled with 57 lbs! It might be slower, but as long as the scale is going down right??? :)

Decreased hunger is exactly what you are looking for. You should be to go like 4 or 5 hours with out eating and not be hungry.

I have 5.5ccs in my band, and I'm never hungry. It's still hard because I want to eat obviously, and I can eat anything, haven't had any stuck issues. After I got my fill (my first fill was 5.5ccs), I felt REALLY full for like 2 days, like I'd have oatmeal and I could feel it in my stomach for like 3 hours, it was the weirdest feeling haha, that feeling wore off. But now I do feel satisfied longer.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
