How much time between first and second fill?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill yesterday afternoon. I was super nervous but it went so well! After reading several posts, I know it'll take a while before I feel real restriction and I'm positive I will need to get a couple more fills. My question, how long will most doctors wait between fills? I have no idea how much he put in yesterday but they told me to call in a couple weeks to check in. Thanks!

I went 10 weeks between my 1st and 2nd fill. I did have an apointment in between there but was losing so they did not give me a fill at that point.

I just had my first fill this week and at my center they go 4 weeks between fills. I'm at 3 cc in a 10 cc band. I get to start regular foods again later today but I have a feeling I won't be feeling any restriction yet. :(

I find it strange that they wouldn't tell you how much they put in...is there some reason for that? It's your band and your body...

So far I'm every 3 weeks, I'm getting my 3rd fill on Monday and hoping that I'm closer to the 'spot'. :)

Mine didn't want to tell me, he said it's not important, but he did. They don't want you to focus on that number, just on your diet and working out. I think put too much emphasis on the fills.

My doctor gave me a large fill. So assume I'll go back if my hunger comes back, but right now, I can go 4-5 hours w/o eating so I'm good. But if you are getting really tiny fills you will go more often

Every doc is different, and depending on how you are feeling- i.e. how much you can eat before being satisfied as well as how long you can go before feeling hungry again- may determine when the doc will give the next fill. Mine leaves it up to the patient, but pretty much the nut told me most patients go 4 weeks between their first 3-4 fills then every 3-4 months depending on where they are at with good restriction and their weight loss. I just had my 2nd fill this week and it was 5 wks between. I was at 3.3cc and they ended up putting in over 2ccs. So I am at 5.5ccs but not sure if I have a 10cc or 12cc band. I do feel a difference right now in the "satisfaction" and "fullness" factor again.

I just had my 2nd fill today and its been 8 weeks since my first fill, and I go back May 6 so for me its every 8 weeks. I think it all depends on the doctor.

I had first fill 4 weeks post op (3cc) and another 3 weeks later (+1). I am going for another next week. I get good restriction for a few weeks and then things start to "loosen up". Portion sizes are creeping up there and some binging on crap food. I may look at low carb to get rid of soem of the cravings.

But I am making progress...

Started 272

after pre-op diet 262

current @ 12 weeks post op 230

My gastric lap band surgery was on Tuseday, December 28, 2010.

First fill was on Sunday, February 20, 2011

I had my first refill on 3 weeks ago, and my doctor told me the next fill will be after 5 weeks ,. This means my second fill will be after 2 weeks. The first was perfect. I didn't feel any pain thanks god :)

There are 5 weeks between first and second fill.

You r most welcome :D

I have my 2nd fill Wednesday and that will be 5 weeks since my first. My doc goes 4-6 weeks. I have an Allergan 14cc band and have 4cc in it currently.

My opinion on the not knowing how much, etc:

1-It is your body, you paid for the surgery and you have a right to know the information if you want to. If you doc hesitates, just tell him it's for your own curiosity if nothing else.

2-You owe it to yourself to become an informed consumer of healthcare. Don't leave the office until all your questions are answered - even if it's something you think is trivial, you'll feel better about having the answer than wondering about it.

Most doctors say that it can take up to two week for a fill to "hit". Mine tend to feel tighter the first week and then go down. My office schedules my fills out 4-5 weeks but I can call to see if they have any cancellations at the 3 week mark. At the beginning I did that which is a good thing because it still took me 6 months to get restriction.

My first fill was last week 3/8/11 and I go back for my 2nd fill next week 3/22/11; exactly 2 weeks apart.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
