Still hate my band

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on June 15, 2010. I posted soon after that it wasn't working. I seem to up set a few on here. Their replies pretty much turned me off of this site, so I have not posted. Well guess what I still hate this thing. It doesn't work for me. I will say it again...really think about this before you do this. it seem to work for some, but please understand it doesn't work for everyone. I see the Doctor Tuesday and I'm going to tell him do something or take it out. I'm done with it.

Can't you just be nice Spartan? Next thing you know you will start name calling and get kicked off the forum .....again.

Your continued assertion that I am someone else, because i have a similar writing/posting style, would be quite incorrect.

Hi

I, too, was still hungry often after my first fill. I continued losing weight, though. My dr is very conservative with fills so he does not put much in. I have now had 3 and about to go back this next week for a 4th. Dont know that he will add more fill, but I hope so.

Your doctor may be conservative on the fills, too. I appreciated it because it gave my body a chance to adjust to the band -- to fill it a little more each time.

Hope this helps.

My doctor is conservative with fills, so far I had 14 fills with a total of 13.00 cc's in my 14 cc band. I lost 73 lbs with the band and I would not change a thing!! biggrin.gif

I am pre-op. I know band does not work for all.

And band can not change WHAT we eat.

My problem - portion size. I hope band will help with that :-)

It totally helps me with portion sizes...that's the #1 best thing about the band for me. I am right now eating a "snack" of brussel sprouts (I absolutely love them!). I heated up 7 on my small plate and am now totally stuffed...I probably could have stopped at 5, but they tasted so good. I can't believe I reached the point where I would actually choose brussel sprouts for a snack over all the other junk food in my house (I have 3 teenage boys) and enjoy them and be satisfied with that small quantity of food. Getting banded was the best decision for me and I have had a very easy time with it. Easy surgery, easy recovery and everything is working pretty much exactly like all the research I did said it would. I think it does for most people who go into it with eyes wide open and a positive attitude. Not always the case for sure, but you have to do your research, weigh the risks, pros/cons and decide to go for it or not. At that point...you make the best out of whatever situation you find yourself in. Good luck to you!

2beskinny ,

I love brussel sprouts as well :-)

I am pre-op so my snack portion would be up to 2 pounds :-( that would be like 5-6 portions ?

I cant wait to feel full from just 5-7

Thank you for the post 2beskinny!

Your welcome, Russian! When is your surgery? Are you nervous? I was so scared - it was the first surgery I've ever had (except for an emergency c-section 16 years ago!). I am so very happy I did this. I feel better, younger than I've felt in 10 years. Even if I never lose another pound, I would be happy with my decision. I have a hard time believing that I'm only 40 pounds "overweight" now...I'm so used to thinking that number is 80-90, etc. Too incredible for me to actually believe I'm where I am. I actually bought a size 12 jeans last weekend...incredible to me...I started this whole process at a size 18. Positive attitude is critical to your success!

Don't count on it helping with portion size. It doesn't work that way for many of us. If you're lucky, you'll get that too, but look for cessation of hunger after a meal.

Im sure the band doesnt work for everyone, as for me it has not done anything besides being implanted in my body, I have to do the rest. 14 fills and no restriction, sounds like a dr issue not a band issue??? Have you contacted another dr?

Im 11 months out and no problems, down 164 lbs. I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry it didnt work for you ladies, its just a tool to work with, we do the work not the band.

It's not just eating baked chicken, I was just using that as an example. The point I am trying to make is I have done this samething over and over to lose weight. It takes a lot of will power to do that. For whatever reason after a while I would get bored with this "eating healthy" thing and go back to the food that I enjoy eating. For some reason I didn't think it would be like this with the lap band. I like eating hamburgers, French Fries, cheese cake, ect. If I had know that I would have to chose the baked whatever instead of a cheeseburger for this thing to work then I would not had gotten this thing I hate. The only time I have felt any restriction I would feel all kinds of pain and throw up. If I have to live worrying about food getting stuck and throwing up, this is not worth it. And to have to take tiny bites of bake whatever on top of it. The Doctor went with the band because of the meds I am on,but I can't help but feel I would of lost a hell of a lot more weight by now. And maybe been off half these meds in anyway. You wait months it get approved, you wait months to find this so called sweet spot, months have gone by and not a damn pound lost. For all the ones on here that think this is the best thing that ever happed to them (and I am happy for those) there are people here thsat have not had this surgery and really need to hear that it doesn't work for everyone. All the money, all the pain, and for what???

Just to have to chose cheeseburger or baked chicken. Hell I did that before surgery. But that time I did loss 60 lbs. Didn't keep it off. But its still more then I can say a this Lap band.l

Didnt your doc tell you that food choices are huge with ANY WLS??? Except maybe the duedenal switch.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
