I was banded 12/1 I have a "possible incision infection" at my main port site my surgeon put me on antibioctics. I noticed yesterday that one of my other incisions looks likes it might be infected also :( it's a little swollen and when I looked at it this morning it's looks like it's opening up with a small whole...and that's how the other one started out. Could this mean that my entire port is infected?!?!?!? has anybody else had this issue?????

You know I have to tell you, where my port incission i, I had a stitch sticking out. I was banded on 12/6. Well the stitch finally fell out two nights ago and I was left with a little hole. THat little hold ended up becoming a pea size hole. The nurse at my work checked it out and I put bacitracin ointment on it and kept it covered.

Today I left it alone and now its scabbing over. but looks nearly black!

No sure what to do!!! Debating on callin the dr.

I have no idea if your port is infected, but for the outside incisions you could try tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil kills bacteria and fungus on the skin especially those resistant to antibiotics. Its amazing stuff and all natural. I've used in on my incisions and they are healing very nicely. We us it for loads of thing in Australia.

People call your doctors!! That is what they are there for!

We can not possibly diagnose your incisions over the Internet.

Actually I feel you may be a bit out of line responding as you did to Mariasha. I tend to agree with his advice. The advice from the others may be sound, but if there is any question a call to you doctors office would be the wisest choice in my opinion.

When you ask for others advice it may be a good idea to take the advice you like and ignore the rest if you so choose. To chastise others for giving an opinion when you are the one that asked for it seems rather silly. You are certainly free to do as you choose though. Good Luck.

I agree. The question was asked if the site could be infected. How is that not asking people to make that determination?!

I've had the same issue. I had a single incision lapband, through my belly button. the surgeon never sewed it shut, just glued it. It NEVER healed. It opened back up. I saw him several times, but he was never concerned. It wasn;t until several months after, when I saw his assistant and she put me on antibiotics did I get concerned. She told me to call back it it hadn't closed up after six weeks (two of which were on anbiotics). It didn't so I finally made another appointment with him. It was seven and a half months after my initial surgery and it had never closed. He suspected a port infection. I had to have a second surgery to remove my port, which he then tried to get to heal, and it didn't. I had a third surgery over thanksgiving to put a new port in. The surgeon also cleaned up the incision site, cutting it down to new, fresh tissue. It FINALLY closed up, about two weeks ago. It took almost ten months and three surgeries. I think if he had just sewed it shut initially, I would have been fine.

I was banded on Dec. 29th and was put on antibiotics for the two days I was in the hospital after the surgery. My port incision was very painful, very tender and very swollen. After five days I the area started to change to a redish color and the texture of the skin started to look like the one of the orage peel. I called the Dr. and first they told me to start taking iboprufen 800mg every six hours. His nurse called me a few minutest later to tell me that the surgeon wanted to see me the next day. I went and he look at it and didn't seem concerned. I am concerned because I had an infection with both of my C-sections and the first one was really really bad. He prescribed antibiotics and the same day I started taking them the pain was gone. I have to take them for seven days and the port site seems to be better. It still has that weir texture but the rednes has diminish. I just hope that it doesn't get worse.

Due to the potential implication of a port infection....you really need to make sure your doc stays right on top of this. It is sometimes hard to know the difference between an infection and the different things that can go on when an incision heals. There may be a retained stitch, or you may be reacting to the internal stitches, or you could be developing a seroma.....the key is not to mess around.

I was lucky...I healed without an issue. But I have had other surgeries that have led to infection and intraabdominal abscesses......so I think it is important that you be very careful.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
