Hello Everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I'm not banded yet, but will be this year. I get headaches pretty often because of allergies and ALWAYS use excedrin. I know you can't use it after being banded and wanted to know what you guys use for headaches.

We've been using liquid Tylenol. I've tried Tylenol pills and they go down ok if they are caplets or capsules. Round pills are a little tougher -- they get a little stuck. I've had 4 fills so have pretty good restriction. You could also cut the round pills in half as long as they are not extended release.

Acetaminophen capsules or caplets for pain control. calcium citrate I like Bariatric Advantage in the cherry flavor. But there are other companies who make them too.. namely Celebrate and Building Blocks. Look up their websites and find their emails and ask for samples. My doctor has samples out too..

I know some folks who take the Viactive soft chews for Calcium. I prefer not to use those cause they've got hydrogenated vegetable oil in them, but you might have a different opinion. :)

If you are a chocolate freak (like I am), then I suggest Adora Calcium supplements. They are calcium carbonate (with Vitamin D), so that means that the calcium is best absorbed when taken with food. I take two after my lunch and I consider them a lovely treat.

Why can't you use Excedrin? I take Excedrin Migraine because nothing else works when I get a headache and other than a caution about crushing it or biting it in small pieces so it doesn't get stuck, my doc didn't have a problem with it.

My surgeon told me I cannot have aspirin or caffeine, and both are in Excedrin. It is a shame because Excedrin was my headache medicine of choice. No biggie...I'll just use Tylenol.

Also, I was told NEVER to use any kind of extended release product.

I have been able to find them at Wegmans (I am in the Philly 'burbs.), but I can't seem to find them at other local stores. I am sure you could probably find them online, too, though!

Some surgeon's believe that NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflamatory Drugs, which includes aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxyn and others) can cause problems with the band like erosions and such. Some don't think that there's a cause & effect at all.

My surgeon will allow very small amounts of an NSAID for a short period of time for specific reasons, but must also take a PPI drug (Proton Pump Inhibitor ..ex: Prevacid or Prilosec) while taking the NSAID.

I'm just finishing a week of Ibuprofen to treat some elbow inflamation that's been going on since September. I got permission to try this as recovery was just so very slow without an anti-inflammatory. I haven't been on Ibuprofen since September!! LOL

I get 200mg of Ibuprofen AM, another 200mg PM and a Prevacid at bedtime. I'm really allowed 2 weeks of such treatment, but I'm going to do one week on the Ibuprofen and 1 week off, then repeat the week on IF my elbow starts hurting again.

The NP told me that they were having to remove a band because of erosion because someone was taking either Aleve or Motrin (forget which she said) for a long period of time. Maybe that patients band would've eroded anyways.. who knows. I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I guess you have one of the surgeons who doesn't think NSAIDs are a risk. Sometimes I wish I had one of those too. :)

Some excedrin only contains acetaminophen so it's okay to take. I know this because I take Excedrin tension headaches for mine and was STRESSED when I thought I wouldn't be able to take it. The most important thing to do is to read the label and see what the active ingredient in your headache medicine is. My doctor also says no to NSAIDS,

You can not have aspirin long term but once for a headache will not put a whole in your pouch. You just can not take it regularly I take furicet when I have a headache and I have taken Ibuprophen I just dont take it daily about once every other month. Caffeine is also only something you shouldnt have for three months post op. I drink coffee everyday for the last nine months and no problem. Drs tell you things to never do well you should never have the Heimlich Maneuver done on you after a banding but are you gonna die so you dont get your band knocked out of place NO. You can not take Drs so literally. Never is a long time and if I have a bad enough headache I am not spending a fortune in the ER for them to give me the same thing only in IV form. Everything in moderation. They tell you never to drink alcohol either. Yeah sure everyone listens to that one. They tell you dont smoke with the band, dont drink, come on common sense folks if you take aspirin or excedrin take it with food and not on an empty stomach just dont take it a gazillion times a day for the rest of your life.

Just a heads up. If you are taking two Calcium supplements at the same time you are wasting one of them. Your body can only absorb 500-600mg at a time. So it would be beneficial to you to split them up at least 2 hours apart.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
