4 months post op ..Infection?

Recommended Posts

The only thing I would have done differently is to make sure I got one last fill and was at my sweet spot and comfortably there (not too tight) before the band removal./QUOTE]

It probably isn't a very good idea to get a fill right before taking out the port. If you get too tight afterwards there is no way to remove any of the fill.

That's right Iluvharleys, I am glad I didn't get another fill right before because no way to adjust if I got too tight. I was just saying since I am SOOOO close to my sweet spot, I wish I could have gotten one more tiny fill and waited like a month before having my port removed (since I no longer have an option for adjustments). But actually, I am fine with things now. It has been 12 days since my surgery, and although it has been a worse experience than the original lapband placement, the one good thing is that my restriction is holding on strong!!! :clap2:

well now that i'm not on pain meds. I'm starting to put things together. The first week of December I kept screwing up everytime I ate . I would eat white chicken and rice vomit. white chicken and noodles vomit. hard boiled egg vomit. And each time this happened I would fill pressure at my port site. My port scar became red, hot, swollen , peeling shortly after. Now Dr. Billy says it was a stitch with a knot that pulled through to my stomach. acting like a candle wick and gastric fluids built up at the port site. I wonder if I am to blame for my condition. If so , I hope it's not that easy to mess up this bad.

Surgery weight 247

Now 204

Lapband placed 8/26/05 Dr Lopez Corvala Mexico

1st fill 9/30/05 1.6cc

port removed 1/6/06 Dr. Billy Ventura

Ddflinn, thanks for telling us what Dr. Billy said. I hope you recover very soon! Sounds like it was a weird situation with a particular stitch making infection more likely. Did Dr. Billy say your behavior had something to do with it? Or would it have happened anywhere just because of the placement of that stitch?

Did Dr. Billy suggest that now you may have a higher future erosion risk due to your port infection? What did he say your future options are--can you get a new port at some point? Thanks for letting us know what happened!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
