Since surgery I have been noticing that my lips have been really dry.. and in the last month they have been getting worse...they have been swollen and super dry, the corners crack and they just hurt... I was complaining to my boyfriend last night and he said I needed more protien. I thought he was joking but this morning I looked it up and sure enough servere dry lips are a sign of protien deficiency, along with Iron and B2.

I thought I was doing good with my protien intake, before surgery I wouldn't even eat meat and now I crave it so I thought I was even getting more protien then I was before. Has anyone else gone through this? I take flintstones chewables but I take it thats not enough.. any ideas on a really good Vitamin?

Bariatric Advantage has good chewables too. I was taking the Flintstones and the nurse in my office said that ONE of the Bariatric Advantage multi's equals SIX Centrums. So, since I was taking Flinstones, I'm sure that number is a bit higher. So, I've switched, I take the Bariatric Advantage Multi's, Calcium and chewable Iron, which I had feared would taste real bad, but it doesn't at all.

If someone is eating a balanced diet, do they really need a super Vitamin that equals 6 Centrums? You can have too much of a good thing. My dr is fine with Flintstones. He did tell me to take 1.5 daily. I don't even take calc supps as I have seen with My Fitness Pal that I eat more than the calc I need.

Mandyrae,

I think everyone offered great tips here. I don't know where you are in your journey but you may also want to supplement with a Protein bar somewhere. On a completely different topic, you may want to refer to your boyfriend as your fiance for the next 21 days!! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! You must be on cloud nine. Except for the dry lips. :(

Best wishes!!

Just a tip about lip products. If you are putting things on your lips that contain petroleum it will only make them more dry.

This product works really well.

There's no petroleum in it.

I found this on the web re cracked and dry lips.

supplements.org/vitamin-B2-riboflavin.php" rel="external nofollow">Vitamin B2 is needed to process amino acids and fats, activate Vitamin B6 and folic acid, and help convert carbohydrates into the fuel the body runs on adenosine triphosphate (ATP). A deficiency of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) may result in bloodshot eyes, abnormal sensitivity to light, itching and burning of the eyes, inflammation in the mouth, a sore and burning tongue, and cracks on the lips and in the corners of the mouth.

You gotta get that under control before your wedding day!!!!!

Good luck!

LOL you guys are funny! It is the same guy, force of habit that I still call him my boyfriend. =) I have not been on in forever! Fiances mom was in town for 2 weeks for Christmas and with getting things ready for the wedding I have been super busy and just haven't been online at all.

My lips are MUCH better! Still I tiny bit dry but nothing you can see. I have been watching my Protein intake and have been making sure I am getting the amount I need everyday, along with drinking a ton of Water. I still need to find a new Vitamin. I have been so busy that I just pushed that aside (which I know I shouldn't have) I plan on getting on next week and ordering some real ones instead of the kiddie Vitamins I have been taking!

Thank you everyone for the tips and the well wishes!!! Only a few more days!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
