Think I injured my port

Recommended Posts

I was squatting down to get something out of my closet, and as soon as I got up, I got this excruciating pain around the left side of belly button. I'm 2.5 weeks post op. Was feeling great until now. Just took a left over pain pill to help, feels like I just got out of surgery all over again near port. Help! What did I do??

Did you feel anything rip, tear, or pop? The port is stitched to the abdominal muscles. Any swelling or bruising? You might have just pulled it.

Try an ice pack and see if that helps. If it isn't too late to give your surgeon a call, check in, just to settle your mind. If it still hurts bad after a couple of hours, call in anyway. If you see any sign of bleeding..same thing, call in.

That's why we pay our surgeon's big bucks..even if through our insurance. If you're scared, check in! Let us know how you are feeling!

Probably not a bad idea to give your surgeon a ring  I will say that for weeks after surgery (even after everything else was feeling great), I would have a searing pain near my port if I moved in the wrong way. Nothing really felt like it was coming out of place - I never heard a rip or a pop, it just took longer to feel better than the other places. Sometimes I felt like I was going to just keel over from pain when I got that searing sensation. I was just careful of twisting and turning and sitting up during those weeks. I hope you feel better!!!

I was able to get in at the doc's yesterday. They thought I may have given myself a hernia. (Yikes!) But when they checked it out, they said I probably pulled apart scar tissue inside my incision. The pain was horrible that first night, but I woke up the next day with very little pain.

Thanks all for your reassurance, I really needed it. :blushing:

I too have had that searing pain in the port site. I asked the day surgery nurse when they called a few days after my surgery if that was ok, and she said yes, it is normal. It felt like it was burning really bad. It comes and goes with how I move. Had my surgery Nov.19, 2010. Hope you feel better soon!

I too had that happen a few weeks after surgery, I was told that it was perfectly normal just not to overdo it. I am 10 months post op and every now and then I do something to aggravate it. Don't do crunches or situps, I learned the hard way about that! Lol !

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
