October 2010 (Bootiful Bandsters) Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! Well, I was banded on 10/25. This has been a very different experience for me than what I am reading here. When I woke up from surgery....I was crying to them that my chest hurt. It felt like someone was standing on my chest. From the beginning, I had a very full feeling that would never go away. Ever! It constantly feels like I have just eaten too much at Thanksgiving. I have to watch the clock to know when I need to eat. liquids go down fine and stay down but like I said, I feel full even before I begin. I HAVE HAD AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF GAS! I HAVE BEEN WALKING AND WALKING AND EVEN SO, I CAN HEAR IT CONTINUE TO RUMBLE AROUND, BUT I CAN'T GET RID OF IT. I have tried Maalox and Gas X strips and I still have a lot of gas. My stomach is still very swollen and the port area is VERY tender. I have been in contact with the Dr's office and they did do an xray when I was still in the hospital and the band is in the right spot. They just keep telling me that although the progress is slow, at least I am feeling a tiny bit better and not worse, and I am not experiencing fever or chills. My post op appointment is Friday and I expect them to do another xray then since this full feeling won't go away. I would really appreciate your prayers BTW, I have had back surgeries, c-section, hernia repair, and a hysterectomy AND THIS IS WORSE THAN ANY OF THOSE!.. I was always back to myself after 2-3 days. I'll end with good news: I've lost 21 lbs since I started pre-op diet!

It was a alot harder that I had expected although the gas pains evreyone is taking about is just NOT happening for me. Someone said a good surgeon will try and remove most of the gas? No clue about that though. Post op tomorrow excited to see how much I have lost. Hope everyone is feeling better-us late October bandsters need to stick together!

I've been very blessed in not having very much gas. I've resumed back to normal life. I've added walking to my everyday life & have really started to see results. My first fill is scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

You are definitely not alone. I'm 3 weeks post-op and while not in pain still don't feel like myself. Had the hernia repair too and maybe that's why. Right now feeling "what have I done"? Hopefully after my fill will feel better about my decision. I have no restriction whatsoever and can eat and drink anything. Trying to hold onto my 23 lb pre-op loss. I'll pray for you if you'll pray for me.

I'm 4 weeks post-op, and overall, I love my band! I have lost 30 pounds between pre-op diet and life with the band!

The only thing is that lately, I wake up every morning with this awful cramping in my stomach. I think there is a large gas bubble there, because once I start burping (I know, gross!) I feel better. Will have to experiment staying off soda, even if it's flat.

So far, there are no foods I can't tolerate, as long as I take small bites and chew thoroughly. I have not vomited, slimed, or PB'd once! Hope I don't jinx myself...

I'm supposed to get my first fill in 2 weeks. But for now, I feel some restriction, and no discomfort other than the morning gas. Yay!

I was banded 10/28/10. First day back at work and I'm very tired and sore. Did anyone else feel kind of cold and a little dizzy or not quite with it? I felt fine when I was home and could lay down often or sit down often. I think maybe I should have stayed home until monday. And I feel like my left shoulder hurts all the time. I knew that gas would cause that after surgery but should it still be there? Did it hurt when your guys stomach growled? What is sliming? I havent vomited or burped up anything but sometimes feel that maybe my shoulder hurts because I'm drinking too much too fast? I'm in constant fear that I'm going to make my band slip... Like it's super fragile or something. Am I just being neurotic? lol it's happened before haha

I was banded on 10/4 and had my 1 week (and 2 day) followup appt. I have been on the scale every day and was upset because I was 1 lb lower yesterday than today and thought I was failing (I am extremely hard on myself and hope learn to cut myself some slack). So, here I was thinking poorly about my loss. When I got weighed at the Dr office I was down 8lbs since my preop appt and 10lbs total since the appt before I started my preop diet. So much for thinking I was failing.

What I learned from this is forget weighing every day as it will just cause disappointment in the short run. I am putting up my scale until I am better able to cope with it and will just wait it out until my 4 week post op appt.

Was banded on 10/25 and have lost 11 lbs. Thought I would have lost more considering I've been on liquids for 3 weeks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
