Favorite high protein food?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am still in the liquid/mushy stage and I do find it hard to get my Protein up atm. But also, I am thinking of what foods to eat when I will be able to eat real food (something that worries me!).

SO... what are your fave high Protein food? ???????

My favorite is tuna tartare or tuna sashimi from my favorite sushi place. But it's not something I rely on routinely--I can't afford it as often as I'd like!

On a routine basis, I rely on the basics: chicken, fish, turkey, lean beef, lean pork. LOTS of Beans (chilis, soups--and yes, I know some doctors say no to Soup because it's supposed to be a slider, but for me it isn't, so I eat it). I use Protein supplements pretty routinely to bump up my Protein because I feel and lose better when I aim for 80-100g/day. My favorites are the Inspire powders (Dutch chocolate, especially) and PURE unflavored whey protein isolate from bariatriceating.com.

I love love love chili! When I am too busy to cook or am out and about I get the large chili from Wendys - it has 28g Protein

Also I have started making my own smoothies at home with Herbalife shake mixes - we have a store here in town that sells them and gave out recipe sheets when you bought from them.....I make a choc PB shake that is yummier than a Dairy Queen shake, I think, and only has about 250 calories and 25 grams of protein! (using choc shake mix, extra Protein powder, powdered Peanut Butter called PB2, skim milk, and ice) It has been fun to experiment with different shake mixes and see what I can come up with....adding a tbs of sugar free pudding to them is yummy too --- like the sugar free cheesecake pudding! I cannot eat anything solid in the morning so I have to start my day off with a shake/smoothie.

I am still using the Protein Shakes to ensure I get enough Protein in....I am only full liquids right now. However, after i get the okay for 'real food' I plan on eating a lot of chicken! I found that my family loves the grilled chicken from KFC. A couple pieces are just the right amount of calories and protein! We even piece it up and throw it on salads.

I love tilapia. It is a non fishy tasting fish. I ususally marinade it with a McCormick packet, let it marinade all day and bake it at 400 for about 30 min. Falls apart and is just amazing!!! Also tuna, Salmon and Yellow tail sashimi (no rice).

My absolute favorite is Chobani Peach yogurt... I find it in Target stores or you can hit the Chobani website and see where it is near you...

I think I am eating cheesecake! it is very rich and fantastic...

I also like Campbells Bean with bacon soup.. I puree it and top it with plain chobani yogurt.. put a little salsa in there... if you like.. make it like a bean burritto...

Those are my favorite puree style high Protein foods.. Good luck! Happy Losing..!

Hands down mine is regular muscle milk, chocolate. If they ever quit making it, I might have a heart attack. I drink it every single morning for Breakfast and LOVE it. (My band is always tighter in the mornings) An 11 oz serving has 22 grams of Protein in it and it doesn't have the funky aftertaste that I find a lot of other Protein Shakes have. (I've tried about 4 other varieties and GAG on them - this one is literally like drinking a shake. It's not milk based, either)

I have many favorites, but here are my softer/mushy type favs since that's the stage you are in:

Tuna/chicken salad

Wendy's Chili (almost any chili, yum!!!)

Refried Beans, topped with lowfat melted cheese, salsa and sour cream

Shepherd's pie, made with ground beef

bean & ham Soup (soup is so not a slider for me)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
