Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Brian, Thanks for starting a thread for September post op banders. Congrats to everyone that have been banded.

I was banded on September 23, My surgeons name is Gary B Korus. My first post-op appointment will be on October 11, not sure if I will be

getting a fill at that time. I'm still on the liquid diet, getting better at it now. Trying to take in 64 oz of liquid each day and 60gms of

Protein each day. Friday was the first time I was able, to get all the liquid my Dr require. It was not easy and I still get gas from time to time.

Debbie; I had a rough time my first few day after surgery, trying to take in all the liquids, like was said the popsicles is good. Also

sips 6-8 sips every 10-15 mins will give you 4ounces (1/2 cup) of liquid a hour. It helps because I was drinking at a very slow rate.

I messed up!! I had been wearing a pedometer, and last night I laid it on the table by the recliner. When I got up this morning, POOF, it was gone. It never occurred to me that my four footed friends would take off with it. I have been looking for it for an hour, but I walked anyway. I did 12 minutes today! Going back to work tomorrow, and since I work nights, this is the time of day I would need to exercise. I just finished and it wasn't too bad. It is getting easier. I hope I have the committment to walk each morning before I go to work. Since I don't get off work till midnight, it won't be practical to work out then. But I was going to wear the pedometer at work and maybe take a five minute walk. But I promise to walk anyway until I can get a new pedometer.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Brenda-- at least your band is in place now and ready to use by the time you can use it. Hearing your story, I'm really hoping my birth control doesn't fail me now! That would be just my luck. One of the main reasons I got this surgery is that I've had difficulty with repeated (3) first-trimester miscarriages, and after the specialist did all of the tests he said "no real reason I can identify-- maybe the weight?".

We hope to try again after I've been banded a year-- that will be our final attempt, and if it doesn't work out, we've become comfortable with the idea of being childless.

I have been stuck at the same weight for a week, and I really think it's because I'm not getting in enough calories to lose. I'm not worried about it-- there is no possible way I can not eventually lose weight doing what I'm doing-- but I sure do like the steady loss over the plateau :smile2: I'm managing somehow not to be too hungry, even though I really haven't had anything that felt like restriction or "band" stuff. I just feel full on less food, which part of me thinks is because I've been eating so much less for weeks now. No complaints though-- I'm definitely not looking forward to getting stuck.

Oh, for those of you on soft foods-- last night I pureed about 2-3 tablespoons of fat free cottage cheese with about 2 tablespoons of a store-made artichoke jalepeno dip, then stirred it in with 2 eggs and a little bit of skim milk. Baked in a small dish at 350 for about 40 minutes and had an excellent crustless quiche (made 2 servings).

Thanks sourmissg - that helps to have a concrete number of sips to shoot for. I'm thinking it should start getting easier in the next day or two -- this is day 4 post op. Still early!

CONGRATULATIONS BRENDA !!!

Does that mean you are having the Band removed or that you will have it empty and just wait until you and your child are ready ? Just curious. I guess you are on a different journey for a little awhile !!!

-Brian :smile2:

Hi Brian,

No, the band will stay where it is, actually the surgeon says we may be able to fill it after 3 months, we have to see how things go. I was concerned because I had surgery while I was already pregnant, but doc said it was so early on, it shouldn't have an effect. I'm no where out of the woods, but I need lost of prayers that this baby is OK. Funny thing is, I found out I was pregnant the day after my son turned 10!

They did my bloodwork in Aug, while I was NOT pregnant. Before surgery they ask, "pregnant?" I said noooo. Dummy!

thanks for the congrats, it's a bumpy road ahead, but I believe we are given what we can handle.

Thanks,

Brenda

Hello everyone!!

I'm a little late joining in here. I was banded Sept 27 :smile2: and I would love to follow this thread to keep up with you guys!

So Im 6 days post op today..and I really am feeling better and better everyday. I havent taken anything for the pain since 2 nights ago and I don't think I'll need it! Drinking Water and protien has gotten sooo much easier in the past 2 days..I could barley get down 12oz of H20 at first, but now Im up to 50-60 and about 40g of protien.

I'm so happy I did this...and the coolest part is my husband is going to do this with me!! He is getting banded on Tuesday!!! Yep..just a week apart, and we're sooo glad we can be there for eachother to vent, motivate and encourage eachother.

Nothing like having a live-in support system. Anyway I'm glad to be here and I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions along the way.

Were off to a great start.....lets all get keep it goin!!!!!!!!!

This is also my first post although I have been reading a lot of blogs and they have helped me A LOT..im really glad I have found this website..So far everything is okay for me.. I can sleep on my side already except I need to use a pillow or I feel weird. I am not all that hungry..well it comes and it goes but it's not unbearable. I started trying Protein Shakes to help me and I am trying to get enough Water in because my face is dry..Did this happen to any of you? I dont know if I am the only but I have read alot of people had problems keeping things down like the water and I havent..? Im really excited about what is coming up and esp. Tues since that day I can start pureed foods.. Thanks to all of you for writing what is going on with you and the support..It has really helped me out a lot!

I was banded on 9-15 and I was doing fantastic until I woke up yesterday and I felt like someone had beat me up. Every time I took in a breath, I would have horrible chest pains. It got worse throughout the day and I ended up going to the emergency room last night. Turns out, after a zillion tests to make sure it wasn't a pulminary embolism, I have pneumonia. They ran some IV antibiotics and gave me morphine and then diloted for the pain (which only took the edge off). They sent me home at 3 a.m. with more antibiotics, nausea medication, and vicodin for the pain. I'm feeling pretty weak, and don't really have much of an appetite. I'm just trying to make sure I get enough Protein and Water in for the day. I am still on leave from work, thank goodness, so I have another week and a half to recover.

I have been exceptionally hungry. My next visit (and I hope my first fill is on 10/15). I have been eating cottage cheese to fill me up, and a high Protein Isopure drink. I wait 30 mins to drink something (and that has been really difficult) then find my appetite has gone down somewhat. If I am hungry again in two hours, then I will have a Protein Drink or cottage cheese. I started counting calories and am averaging 1200-1400. The worse part is at night, I have been waking up STARVING. But last night I took a carton of cottage cheese to bed, and had a few spoonfuls before I laid down, woke up several hours later, and had a few more spoonfuls. This is the first morning I have not woken up so hungry I was sick.

Boy this is difficult... I really had a giggle imagining taking a tub of cottage cheese to bed with me. You are full of great ideas and Ihadn't thought of that at all. Roll on first fill.... we'll just have to do what we can to stave off the starved feelings with fat free stuff. All the best for the new week - my second week of pureed food. hmmm

I gave up looking for the pedometer and ordered a new one. Tanita PD-724 3-Axes Activity Monitor. This one is special because you wear it around your neck on a lanyard. That sounds neat, I can just pop it on first thing when I get up no matter what I am wearing. You know I did hear kitties running around last night while trying to sleep, I wonder......

And because I put my promise to walk tomorrow before I go in for my first day of work, then I gotta do it!!

Hello, All! This is my first post since being switched to the new Sept Bandsters thread. Thanks, Brian, for doing the switch! I've been banded since 9/22 and I'm getting ready to go back to work tomorrow. I'm kind of on the fence about it. There's been a lot of changes taking place in the last week and a half! Anyway, I'm still on my liquid diet for two more days, but as of Wednesday packing my mushy food to work should be a lot easier. My biggest concern at this stage is being so weak. I work 10-12 hours days and I'm not sure I can do it this week. I've been sooooo tired I can hardly go without a nap! Where is everyone else on this?

It's been great reading about everyone and how we're all coping with the same issues. I look forward to a long journey will all of you!

Hey Brenda/ highlojack, you can have the band and be pregnant, with it all the open, you aren't talking about having it removed are you? that would be a shame.

Oh and also, wow! congratulations, I was single and pregnant at 36 and was very excited. I'm excited for you.

Hi everyone! Well, I was banded Sept 22, but sorry to report I must stop the banding experience. I was so sick and so nautious I questioned whether I did the right thing by getting banded. I am still very weak and sick daily.....

The good news is, it has NOTHING to do with the band.

Timing is everything as they say, and I found out I'm pregnant just two days ago! Yeah, 40 and single, who'd a thought! How did that happen? So, no negative thoughts about the band, but it is going to have to wait until it's put to use!

Any questions? Bring em' on, I still need support! I'm still one of us, but my tickler probably won't change!

Love to all,

Brenda

Hi Brenda.

Wow. What wonderful news! A baby is truly a wonder, whether single or married. The baby will change your life - for the better.

I've heard the band can work with pregnant women. That is what is wonderful about the band - it's flexibility. First, and foremost, speak to your doctor and tell him/her that you are pregnant. When you are pregnant, you don't need to worry about weight loss. That can come in it's own time. Just don't get any fills, feed your baby while you carry and nurse your baby and the band will be ready for you when you are ready to lose weight.

Congratulations!!! Best of luck to both of you!!!:smile2::thumbup::thumbup:

Oh also, I'm way behind in reading.

S.O. Zen- wow I'm sorry about your incision issues, can't you try like a butterfly type thing to hold it together and some some Vitamin E. I can't imagine dealing with that right now. I hope it gets better.

Can someone tell me how to subscribe to a thread, I just accidentally hit the unsubscribe button on my email from this thread. Duh.

I have a lot more reading to do, but also I can't believe some of the stories so far, i tell you the pnemonia story and the other hospital story, those are the stories that the whole being a continent away from my surgeon freaks me out about. Keeping my fingers crossed and wondering why it is so difficult to get insurance to pay, especially when my insurance bill is high.

thanks everyone for all the information

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
