Its impossible. How do you know its flipped if I may ask? Because your port is stitched into your stomach muscles. Its not hanging somewhere.

It may not "flip", but it can certainly skew a bit. It comes from the stitch ripping on one side, then when it heals, it's not flat on the muscle any longer.

Most techs, PA's and the like are very adept at figuring out where the soft spot is on the port regardless.

I thought I had ripped my stitches 3 weeks out, but it was a small rip, and once it healed, it was as good as new.

No offense, but I beg to differ here. It can and sometimes does flip. There are some people on here that it has happened to and I know someone personally it has happened to. As for the reason, I don't know, possibly the stitches cam loose? Do a search for some previous posts about port flipping and see if that helps! Good Luck!

I went today for my first fill, they were doing the fill under fluroscopy so that he could see the port well, and he said that with the first fill he can get a "tighter" fit. He tired 3 or 4 times to get the guidewire in, but it wouldn't advance and actually bent the wire, so, he asked for a sideview and there it was the port was upside down. He said that it doesn't happen often, and he had never had it happen with the Realize band before, so, next week I will have it fixed.

Of course the port can flip and does flip but it`s easily rectified. Sorry it happened to you.

I just found out my port flipped too. I hope it is not too painful to fix. I was thinking about changing operations to the full bypass if I had to go back under. I am just not sure what I am going to do

Fixing the port is a very simple procedure. It is done under local anesthesia, and your doctor may even be able to do it for you in the office.

There are a number of people here who have had their ports flipped and had to go in to have them flipped back over. One even said they're getting it done in the office under a local.

For a couple months they thought mine was going to flip because it was turning on its side. Then it straightened back out.

I had mine fixed in office.

My surgeon gave me local anesthesia, cut open along the same original incision, flipped the port back over and stitched it back up.

Its a very simple procedure.

Yep, mine is tilted a lot. I only feel one edge and not the whole thing. I had a sneaking suspicion that a stitch had ripped since it felt odd. When I went in for my first fill my doctor freaked out and said it was majorly tilted. He had to feel around and poked me 3 times to get the fill done. He said this was a first for him. I was not a happy camper. He said to let it stay since he can fill and if it becomes uncomfortable or moves then I can have revision surgery.

did you guys do anything that made it flip? like moving the wrong way or sleeping on your stomach? or did it just do it on its own?

It did it on it's own and you don't even feel it flip. Just one time it is fine and the next time you go in they can't fill you as your port is flipped.

it's not impossible, my mom and i both have the lap band and hers is flipped. it become unstiched to the muscle and so it flipped, so that its upside down. She has to go and get another surgery so that they can reattach it to the muscle again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
