November bandsters unite!!

Recommended Posts

Last night, I sat up late, could not sleep, thinking that I am making a mistake. I told myself that I can do this on my own, save the money (I'm paying for this myself) and just stick to a diet plan and get it done. I did a lot of research but then last night, I started looking up all the "bad" stuff instead of the "good". I cried and cried, thinking that I shouldn't do this.

I think the reason I am thinking this way is that I'm not a person that needs to lose 150 ro 175 lb......If I loose 55 lbs or so, I'm looking thin!! So last night, I'm telling myself, why go through this for such a small amount of weight loss? Just stop eating!! (yeah, right......)

As much research as I've done, I think the one thing that I never knew, that I read last night, is that LAP-BAND® isn't good for those who love sweets! Why that little tid-bit was not known to me, I don't know......I really LOVE chocolate!! To think that I cannot ever have that again is a horrible thought. Then I heard, no popcorn........I think the thing that is making me think this over again is that I need to be sure that it's okay with me, that I never eat certain foods again, even in moderation.

Anyway, at this point, I'm torn and am going to sit down with my husband tonight and talk. It's an important decision that now, I am re-thinking

Are you sure? I never heard that before either. I did hear that about gastric bypass surgery because of what they call the "dumping syndrome". I love sweets too but I love myself more. Knowing me I'll eat sweets anyway...if it doesn't agree with me I'll either stop or deal with the consequences. I have two friends who had the surgery and they eat sweets. I think the bigger issue is the caloric intake of the sweet in question. If you can only eat 2 oz at a time and you're using it for a cupcake instead of Soup or something like that, I could see that being an issue but all in all I plan on eating everything I ate before in moderation of course and AFTER I've let my body heal.

I just found out my surgery was moved from 11/17 to 11/3! Whooo hooo!!!

I finally have my date scheduled: November 10th. I actually thought I was going to get this done months ago, but no complaints! I'm just so happy to finally have a date!

I was told I could have it done on the 5th, but my husband's a middle school teacher so I tried to get it scheduled for the 11th (veteran's day). My Dr. doesn't do surgery on Thursdays, so we scheduled it for Wednesday the 10th. Hopefully my mom can get that day off and be with me and help take care of my 1 and 3 year old. My husband has the 11th and 12th off. I explained this to the receptionist and she said that I wont be able to pick up my kids for 6 weeks. Yeah right...I'll see what I can do?

Thanksgiving probably wont be much fun this year; luckily Thanksgiving isn't one of my favorite holidays. I'll start mushie foods the day before Thanksgiving, so I'll stille be able to enjoy the mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie filling.

Yeah, I'm so excited to finally be on my way to the real me which has been hiding behind all the fat!

By the way, do we have a cute name for ourselves? I think October's is Bootiful Bandsters. Maybe we could be something like Thankfully Banded '10.

Bella,

btw, my surgery is the 11th, on Veteran's Day. I cholse that day since I am off from school. (I'm a teacher too). Thanksgiving will not be as fun this year for me too, but will be worth the sacrifice! I guess I'll be doing mashed potatoes and pukmkin pie filling too! Maybe even some pureed turkey, since that will be my exact 2 week mark!

My birthday is the 13th, so I'll be doing liquids on my b-day. I wonder if they b-day cake flavored Protein Shakes? ? LOL!!

Hi there everyone, Rikki here from houma louisiana that is near new orleans. I just got a surgery date of Nov.12,2010 . I don't have a time yet. I have BCBS of TX. I didn't get approved the first time. They pretty much told me that I was just a few pounds shy and since I didnt have any co-moridities that I needed to have a BMI of 40 to be approved. Well I did just that and sure enough I was approved. I can't wait to start this journey. I am a little scared but I am mostly excited. I have so many questions that I would like to find the answers too and so far no luck I am so anxious.

Hi Bella Luna,

I started the process in May but the dr. I went to had a totally incompetant staff, so I switched doctors and it all came together within a month. We had "Thanksgiving on Sunday since I'll be all liquid then.

The more I read the more questions I have but I feel really positive about having the surgery.

G'night,

Corkee

It's official. My surgery is scheduled on November 12. I took 10 days off work. Still struggling with the white lies and ommisions around my surgery. I keep remembering wise lapband talk advice. "you can't untell". I went to my first meeting with the surgeon on 8/23/10. I weighed 232 and today at the gym I weighed 224 before any official pre-op diet. Oh yay, I am so ready. I increased my work outs to 5 days a week. Swimming 2 days, cycling 2 days and walking 1-2 days. My secret fantasy is to do a triathalon before I turn 50 next year. I think I can do everything but the running now. Guess I'll check out Couch to 5 K. I'm surprisingly not scare and I feel really prepared thanks to this site and several BOOB blogs.

For purposes of full disclosure, I will never use a smiley face in my posts, especially the animated ones. They remeind me of clowns and do I have issues with clowns. That's another post. LOL

Hey Im set for November 10th too! I just got my time. I hafta be at the hospital to check in by 7, and surgery time is 10. They told me I should be ready to go home at like 3pm! Nervous but excited.

Whats the length of everyones liquid diet? I hafta do 3 weeks! Its a blessing (and curse) that my husband is gone to sea at that time because Im not sure if I could cook for him and not want to eat myself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
