Topazz..I think you are giving yourself a great birthday gift!!!! I LOVE THESE BOARD ALSO!!! I know I have heard from some of you the feel of failing at the band and I have had this fear also. I keep feeling like what if I go through all of this and put my family through it and then I have serious complications or fail and do not lose weight. I feel as if I have lost some on my own and then I get frustarted with myself like why can i not just lose the weight on my own without medical intervention.....I feel like I am weak in some ways by doing this. I know that it is not correct it is just ingrained in my head. I looked back at my ww books and i have been in the same weight range give or take 20 pounds for the past 10 years. Obviously I am not losing it on my own despite my stinkin thinkin.

Hello November bansters! I too will be having surgery in November. I get to pick a dated Wednesday I'm shooting for the 9TH. I was approved this past Friday and I thought I'd be more excited than I am. Maybe when it gets closer to time I will be. The two week liquid diet scares me as my will power has been little to none in the past few months and it's going to take a lot of that not to eat any food.< /span>

Hi everyone! I have a Nov 1st surg date in my mind. Trouble is I have to wait to resub to ins. They denied fist request, as I expected. Now after completing the 3 month education prgram they require on Oct 6th, I will resubmit. Since I have done all they requested, I hope they approve it now. My deductible is met for the year so I am settled on Nov 1. Would love to do 29th but am concerned about the kiddos for halloween. I guess I could always hand out candy and help them get ready so hubby can take them. Maybe I will feel so fabulous that I will wnat to walk, who knows.

I am mom of 3. They are 21 years old, 4 years and 16 months. I work in the medical field and have a 45 minute commute to my rual hospital where I am the manager of my dept. My hubby and I are going on 6 years! He has been very supportive of my decision. I am NOT telling in laws however. And only my closest coworkers know. I just dont wnat to deal with the morbid curiosty.

I am a shopper so I am checking our Protein supplements and doing some meal planning for my different stages of pre-op and recovery. Anybody wanna hear about some products I am going to try?

I hope you dont think I am a spaz but I am really excited about doing this and planning helps me keep in the zone.

Are you reading my mind???? I am feeling the same way. I have been so excited about some many different plans to lose weight over the years. I jumped in with my whole heart and have always failed after varying lengths of time. SO, when looking at the Band, I have a little piece of me that is holding back. A little voice in my head that says, you better not screw this up chubbs! After so many failures, I find it hard to commit my whole heart to it. I think when I feel the restriction and actually feel full after eating a 1-3oz meal, then I will believe I can do it.

But that is kinda scary......

Hi All!

Best of luck to everyone who's on their way to being banded.

Foods that cause me trouble: scrambled eggs, rice, too tough meat, thick Pasta (angel hair is fine, but fettucini is tough). That's about it...I can't complain!

Complications: I don't know if you'd call this a complication, but my band has gotten tighter instead of looser as I've lost. Since we moved since my banding, I am having trouble finding someone to unfill me a bit. I tried the ER and they would only do a complete unfill, which I refused. But I finally have an appt on Monday with a place through Fill Centers USA. I hope I am happy! Other than that, no complications.

Today is my 10-month bandiversary, and I've lost 61% of my excess weight, 33% of myself, 122.2 lbs, and 109.75". Believe me when I say that banding was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Other questions, anyone?

I was set to have the gastric sleeve but recently decided to have the lap band instead. I have lost quite a bit of weight on my own (69 lb) and now feel that the sleeve is perhaps a bit more drastic than I want to do. My main concern is that it is not reversible and the lap band is should the need arise.

Sheryl, congrats on the weight loss!!! I chose the Lap Band exactly for the same reason that it's reversible if needed.

Amy, I would love to know that I have lost that much weight a year from now. How did you do it?? I think I will need to lose about 125 pounds. Do you still use the shakes as a meal supplement?

Busy weekend, here. We sadly had a funeral to go to for hubby's best friend's mom. So sad!!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend though!

Hello November Bandsters! I have a tentative surgery date of Monday November 22nd. I could have it sooner but recently started a new job and wanted to get acclimated before taking any time off.

I am trying to soak up all the knowledge that I can at this point so I can prepare for anything that comes my way. I also don't have an official approval date from Anthem BCBS but they did call the surgeon and say 'If she submits medical records for 2 years, we'll approve her' (My doctor only sent 6 months over for some reason) So basically this is where I am right now. That was all submitted maybe a week and a half ago so those of you with quick BCBS approvals are lucky. I started the process for approval over a month ago. It doesn't really matter I guess because I can't do it until November anyway - I'll just feel like it's more 'real' if I have that approval.

My wedding anniversary is the day after my surgery too so it's going to be a crazy week. I'm excited to get to know everyone and learn about what you're doing to prepare as well!

Have a great day!

-Dizzy

Hi all!

I just got my tentative surgery date today, November 8th! :smile2:

It will be almost a week short of a year since beginning the journey with my first seminar... with my 6 mo medically supervised diet and all the hoops from my HMO, etc, it's finally hitting me that it is really almost HERE  But I am thrilled and so glad to have this site and forums to learn and meet others going thru the same!

Good luck to you all and hit me up if you want to be LB buddies! God bless, Susan

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
