Carnation Instant Breakfast?

Recommended Posts

I received 3 different post op diets, very, very similiar from my 1st appointment, then when I saw my nutritionist and then again right before surgery. One of them lists Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added as an option for Stage 2 (Full-Liquids) which I'm on. Did anyone else have this during this stage? I would love to be able to branch out a little bit and would be interested in having this if it's OK.

If all the diets you were given had the same general gist, I would be comfortable eating from any of the lists provided. I would just assume that the individuals presenting the information each had the same goal in mind, but each had a bit of different info to offer.

For example, my doctor, his nurse coordinator, and the dietitian all emphasize a low-carb diet to me. But each offers a slightly different angle. It all boils down to getting enough Protein and avoiding simple carbs---but the nurse has different tips from the dietitian, and the doctor has his own take, too.

I synthesize the information from all of them the best I can.

Instant Breakfast is, indeed, a full liquid---so if you've advanced to that stage, then it's safe to add. That said, I wouldn't waste stomach space on it. It's pretty good in terms of carb (because no sugar is added), but it has only 5 grams of Protein. It just doesn't have much to offer, nutritionally.

I think that it's often recommended because it's easy to find. And if you don't have good-quality Protein shakes on hand, then maybe they'd be a good choice for you.

But my "instant breakfast" every day is a Protein shake made from Inspire protein from bariatriceating.com.

CIB was recommended to me as well, but they didn't mention sugar free. I was so miserable during the liquids phase, that I didn't worry too much about "dieting" till I felt better. And I found instant breakfast, with 2% milk, to be very comforting during that time.

No sugar added Carnation instant breakfast is my absolute favorite to have in the morning. I am almost 7 months out and I still drink it. It's delicious!

Surgery date: 1/25/10

I use it and add Protein to it. 1/2 serving of Dutch chocolate Cake protein from Bariatric Eating. It wasn't available for me until the 3rd week. But enjoyed it!

I went out and bought it a couple of weeks ago to have on hand after surgery.

It was good but it gave me such bad gas that I will never drink it again. I had the kind of bad gas pains that are described here after surgery. It was all in my back and made me miserable.

So that's off my list.

I love the no sugar added vanilla CIB. I was banded on 5/17/10 and I still drink one every day. I have it in the morning. I put it and a scoop of Unjury vanilla Protein powder into my coffee every day. I love it. The Unjury makes the drink really creamy. Mmmmmm!

I love CIB french vanilla. I am about 5 months out and have it for breakfast almost every day. My 14 year old daughter who rarely eats breakfast has started drinking it too. It is a fairly good source of Protein with fat-free milk added to it. It keeps me full until lunch time.

I use the CIB pre-made no sugar added all the time. I am not sure why someone said it is not a good sourve of Protein - it is a great source for what it is - 13g and 150 calories. I drink it for breakfast, especially when I am feeling 'tight' or on the run. Just make sure you get the blue bottles!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
