August Rush in bandland!

I hope its ok that I started this thread over on the post-op side! Just wanted to check in to see how those who have been banded are doing?

Im 5 days post op and Im HUNGRY. This all liquid business is really getting annoying. I think Im dehydrated too but Im going in to see my doctor today just to make sure everything is ok. I was feeling nauseous and still running a low grade fever. I talked with the doc last night and she said she didn't seem too worried about it but wanted me to come in today just to followup. Im going to ask her about starting some applesauce, pudding or thinned out cream of wheat. I need something more solid in my stomach.

To top everything else off- Im having female issues and bathroom issues. I started my period a week early 3 days before surgery even though Im on the pill and technically not supposed to start until this week. And I have a yeast infection from the antibiotics I got in the hospital. And then with nothing but liquids coming out I have a hemorrhoid. SHOOT ME NOW.

And the worst was last night when I was taking care of some lady business and was trying to be real gentle with my insicions so I didnt stretch too much and hurt them- well I got the MOTHER of all cramps in my lower abdomen (down below my belly button) that would not go away. I was in EXCRUCIATING pain and it hurt so bad that I really thought I was going to black out from the pain. After what seemed like 10 years (but really only 30 secs) things started getting better. But I called my husband upstairs and had him lay down iwth me just to make sure I wasnt going to pass out.

Anyways, after last night Im glad Im going in to see the doctor. I think I need to get some gatorade to drink because im probably dehydrated but just want to check with her to make sure its ok. And hopeing she will clear me to eat a little something. Im tired of feeling so weak and tired all the time.

Weighed myself this morning, and I have met my first weight loss goal. :)

I have the main big one, but I have 4 smaller ones. I was so excited when I hopped on the scales this morning, and the big number started with a 2.

Congrats!! Amazing :)

I am one week out today and feeling okay. Just gassy, still. And I second the need for something salty- all this artificial sweetner is not my cup of tea. But I'm not really hungry yet....I'm sure that will come soon enough...

You know what? I'm actually liking these liquified soups. I've got Butternut Squash, Vegetable, Cream of Potato and Cheddar Brocolli. They really are yummy and better than just broth.

Tomorrow I am officially on this side of August Rush! Here I come....

I made it through. I'm banded!! Had a really long day. Had some bad gas pains around my rib cage but walking has helped. I still have a foggy brain from the drugs. Otherwise, I'm doing well. No pain other than gas. I'll write more later.

Jen how are you doing?

Diane Congrats!!

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on Monday and am doing well, no real gas pains or headaches, just a little sore. I'm grateful since I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm not really hungry but I am worried I'm not getting enought Protein in this stage (clear liquids), I can't wait to add soups to the menu juice and ice pops.

Glad to have you all to share this with!

Hi everyone!

I'm joining August Rush  I was banded on Monday. So far, feeling a lot better but still incredibly sore around my belly button. chicken broth was absolutely amazing for about a day and already I'm bored. Looking to move onto better Soups.

Gas is still killing me ... gas x strips (after 2 boxes in 2 days -- bad i know) is not helping any longer. can we take tums?

Another Question: anyone do any sugar free frozen yogurt or sorbet? Is chocolate flavor off limits?

Nice to join the August-ers!!

Khloe, my doc's office specifically reccomended liquid Mylanta with gas releif in it. They said it gives better releif than Gas X. Wish they would have mentined that before I already went out and bought the Gas X.

I was given Mylicon (sp) it's a liquid medication that is used mostly in infants. That did help me along with the gas-x strips. Honestly, it took me over 6 days to start to feel better from the gas. Last night 7 days post-op I slept in my bed for the 1st time.

That is how I felt about chicken broth, I started gagging a few days in. My doctor is following a strict diet - Clear liquids for 7 days after, then 7 days of full-liquids, then to pureed. I see him tomorrow so I'm hoping I can move on soon.

Best of luck!

Thanks! I'm definitely going to pick up a different gas relief medicine. I can't wait for sugar free sorbet and some chocolate protein drinks. I'm on clear liquids for 14 days!!! Then onto full liquids for another 15 days before moving to solids. I cant believe I won't be eating a solid anything until September 9th -- so sad. haha! I'm definitely going to have salmon ... my dad made this stuffed salmon last night that had me craving!

Congrats to all the bandits! 4 more days till I cross into band land. My name is Janelle, on 7th day of pre-op. Will keep in touch

Where on the same day Aug. 13th...woohooo can't wait!!

Hey everyone...I was banded last Friday and had my first follow up with the doc today. All went well, he was impressed with my 22lb weight loss in 5 days. I am moving onto full liquids tomorrow and I was given permission to slowly add some soft foods like really thin mashed potatoes.

So, for now I'm looking forward to creamy soups, pudding, and shakes and I may attempt some soft foods next week if I'm feeling up to it. All in all, I feel great, soreness has all but disappeared and the gas issues have subsided considerably.
