August Rush in bandland!

I hope its ok that I started this thread over on the post-op side! Just wanted to check in to see how those who have been banded are doing?

Im 5 days post op and Im HUNGRY. This all liquid business is really getting annoying. I think Im dehydrated too but Im going in to see my doctor today just to make sure everything is ok. I was feeling nauseous and still running a low grade fever. I talked with the doc last night and she said she didn't seem too worried about it but wanted me to come in today just to followup. Im going to ask her about starting some applesauce, pudding or thinned out cream of wheat. I need something more solid in my stomach.

To top everything else off- Im having female issues and bathroom issues. I started my period a week early 3 days before surgery even though Im on the pill and technically not supposed to start until this week. And I have a yeast infection from the antibiotics I got in the hospital. And then with nothing but liquids coming out I have a hemorrhoid. SHOOT ME NOW.

And the worst was last night when I was taking care of some lady business and was trying to be real gentle with my insicions so I didnt stretch too much and hurt them- well I got the MOTHER of all cramps in my lower abdomen (down below my belly button) that would not go away. I was in EXCRUCIATING pain and it hurt so bad that I really thought I was going to black out from the pain. After what seemed like 10 years (but really only 30 secs) things started getting better. But I called my husband upstairs and had him lay down iwth me just to make sure I wasnt going to pass out.

Anyways, after last night Im glad Im going in to see the doctor. I think I need to get some gatorade to drink because im probably dehydrated but just want to check with her to make sure its ok. And hopeing she will clear me to eat a little something. Im tired of feeling so weak and tired all the time.

Another thing, I don't know how your doctor is, but mine said NO SOLIDS before your fill. If you have eaten, they will not fill your band.

Thanks so much for the info. The needle is the part that scares me the more...or more so the "poking around searching for my port". I can't feel it with my hand so I have no idea where it is (but I'm not a doctor).

My Dr. office never mentioned anything about no solids before a fill, but I was actually wondering about that. Good info to know. Thanks!

Melissa

I am sure a protein shake is fine. My doctor actually wants us to eat 2 protein shakes a day, right up until goal. I am not sure I plan on doing that, but we will see. If I were you, I'd eat a protein shake with a small piece of fruit. The fruit will help you feel full, since the shake goes right through the band. Another option is greek yogurt, you can add some fruit to it, it's really good and has a lot of protein.

I either drink a shake or eat an Activa yogurt. I'm not a big breakfast eater.

Since having my fill, I've already noticed foods that are hard to eat.

Chicken, Beef, and bread. Bread I can't eat no matter how small the bite. Chicken and beef have to be extra tiny, and I mean teeny tiny. We went out to eat with my parents, and I kept apologizing for taking so long to eat. I felt so bad about taking so long, that I finally quit eating.

The good thing though is that the table is usually cleaned off before I'm done eating.

Hello everyone. I just got banded on 8/27. I have spent all morning reading comments on here so I know what to expect. I am not really hungry yet. I am on clear liquids for a week and then full liquids for another week.

What type of vitamins are yall taking?

Those of you on solids- What are you eating at breakfast time to get your protein in? I've never liked Eggs and bacon so I've been drinking protein shakes instead even though my doc said NO liquid calories.

What are you guys eating?[/QUOT

hey I am not sure if you can eat bread but I toast one slice of bread and put

peanut butter on it. For some reason toasted bread goes down very easily for me. I also eat cereal. I let it get mushy and down it goes. What size band do you have?

Hi I was banded in Mexico Augus 17th. I am new to forums, and still trying to navigate my way around, can I join this group?

Of course you can! WELCOME. Who did your surgery? Any questions, or concerns or any good input? I am Tiffany and welcome to BandLand:biggrin:

I was taking a gummy vitamin pre-band but now that i have it i think i'm gonna switch to a chewable cuz i'm scared of it getting stuck :cursing:

AARRGGHHHH!!!! Ok, everyone, I just need a moment to vent...so I'm apologizing in advance. I posted a little over a week ago about the fact that I have been having trouble swallowing (it was just a thread on the post op board). Anyway, I had all the fluid taken out of my band last Monday, because it was causing really bad "reflux". They put me on the Prevacid disolving tablets and I have been on liquids for the last 5 weeks (two pre op and three post)!!! I am missing chewing food! Anyway, I went back today because the problem has improved very slightly, but not much. I had another swallow and the fluid is still stopping about 2 inches above my band. It does eventually go down, but it sits for a long time before it moves. When the PA saw my barium swallow today he told me that in seeing over 4000+ LAP-BAND® patients he has never seen anyone with anything like it. He had no idea what the problem is, he said the band is placed perfectly, and there is nothing wrong that he can see. So, I have an appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday, and hopefully he has more insight into what is going on. Unfortunatly I have to be on liquids for another week!!!! I'm trying really really hard to stay positive, but shoot this is getting tough. I'm hoping whatever the issue is it either goes away on its own, or it is a really easy fix....but I'm grateful for our little forum that allows me to vent to people who aren't going to say..."I told you you shouldn't have had surgery......" So thanks!

Camille

i have a question. since alot of people can't eat bread, has anyone tried wraps?... i not much of a bread eater but i do love a tuna fish wrap.

My surgery was don in TJ, by Dr. Almanza, at the Jerusalem clinic. So far so good, no gas, heartburn, nausea, or vomiting. I did however have a reaction to the nylon stitches, and the original adhesive, they put over them, that is slowly healing but it doesn't look pretty.

I am trying to gat an exercise program going, whats working for anyone else, I'm thinking about Curves and/or Zumba. I am afraid of any lifting yet, my port site is really tender and sore.

I've only lost 15 lbs. but old habits die hard.

I have the Zumba tapes but I haven't tried them yet. I'm having a hysterectomy on Thursday so it will probably be a while yet before I can do them.
