So after beginning this process more than 3 years ago (long story - had to switch when insurance changed Center of Excellence requirement) I have a surgery date of 8/12 (less than a WEEK away!).

And all of a sudden I am wavering - getting scared...that it won't work, that there will be complications, that the pain will be too much. Has anyone had a similar experience?

It probably doesn't help that my mother keeps telling me I shouldn't get it done.

It's normal to flip-flop. And it's normal for people to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. You need to go with what you think is best for you.

Me, getting the band was the best thing I could have ever done. In less than a year I had established new eating habits, lost all my excess weight, established a bit of a fitness regimine, and got pregnant. Best decision I made in a long time!

I have seen more that once on this board, folks who get cold feet the closer it gets to the day...

All I can say is that you chose this path for reasons mostly known to you. Your health, family history, whatever.... those reasons haven't changed. The fact that you have been working toward this goal for a LONG time, just makes you that much more apprehensive.

It is a big step. Just remember that you are doing this for your own good... and those who love you.

As long as you follow your Dr.s instructions... and move as much as you can after surgery, you'll do great! even if you choose to postpone or cancel, what ever you chose, you will do good!

I was definately having cold feet before the surgery. I had my surgery on July 21, and at the time all I could think about was that I was about to go into my senior year of college, I was going to be an RA, treasurer of a club, on the Judicial board, and I was really scared that there would be complications or something would happen during the surgery to prevent me from doing all the stuff that i wanted to do, but now that i have it done, I am really glad that I went through with it, because everything went fine, and I am leaving for school in a week and I am feeling great. ive even lost some weight already.

It seems pretty normal for people to get cold feet. It is a major surgery and there are risks, but the benefits definately outweight the risks. It took a while to convince me of that, but here I am!

I had cold feet while waiting for my doctor to get to the hospital the day of surgery. LOL! I was thinking to myself that if she didnt show up soon I was yanking out all of the IVs and walking out the door.

Hi, I know how you feel... I was set up for surgery June 3rd,2010 as the date got closer I got so scared... after reading about all the bad things that can go wrong, and my insurence will only pay $5000 and I have to pay $11,000. I got a care credit card and put the surgery on it, just so I could get it done. Then I started thinking... what if I pay all this money and it does not work? or What happens if it slips and I have to go have it taken out, my insurence wont pay, now I owe $16,000 more!!!! After I canceled my surgery I felt like it was the end of the world. I wanted it sooo bad. So I went back to the Doc. and went over everything again just to make sure I could understand what it is all about, he made me feel better about it, so I set the surgery for June 28th, The truth is I was scared to death, But I did it, no problems and everything went great, I am down 14 lbs and I am very happy I did it.....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
