Recommended Posts

I guess since it is now October we should all move over to The POST OP SECTION under a Sept 2010 Bandsters heading.

how does that work, does someone have to start a thread or is it already there.

I want to applaud all of us September 2010 Bandsters. WE DID IT!

I was banded on 9/1/10 and had my first post op appointment today. My doctor did not give me a fill. I've been taking in about 700 calories with about 70 grams of Protein per day and feeling satisfied. I'm not hungry between meals, but am hungry by the time of the next meal. I've been walking or using a stationary bike for 30+ minutes 6 days per week. I've lost 17 pounds since my surgery date of 9/1/10 and 26 pounds overall.

Another option for us is to post in the "monthly" section further down the list - there's already a September 2010 section and everyone can post their own questions/updates individually instead of a 95+ page long post. Might be easier to catch up there! Just an idea.

Best to everyone.

Hi Everyone -- Surgery was Wed. so I'm 2 days post op and just trying to figure things out. The pain is manageable and the gas is starting to dissipate.

My biggest problem is I'm not getting near the 64 oz of liquid down not to mention other Protein. I have an 8 oz bottle of Water that I've worked on all day, but I have gotten some Tomato Soup down (and it tasted like heaven!).

So, how little is too little? Will it pick up enough in the next few days that I won't dehydrate?

Does anyone have a hint for tolerating the crushed medications? They're so bitter that it turns my stomach (my pouch!) for several hours afterward.

Thanks for your help!

Debbie

I was banded 9/27/10 and I'm feeling pretty good. Haven't needed any pain meds and the gas is going away, although it does bother me at times. I've lost 5 pounds in 4 days. Not sure I'm getting enough Water, but carry it with me and sip throughout the day.:smile2:

Hello everyone, glad to hear that everyone is doing well or at least getting their issues resolved. I spent last night at the emergency room - I got sick with horrible nausea around 11:30 last night, made it thru the first episode but when the second round woke me up around 12:30 I had my daughter drive me to the hospital.

They started an iv and gave me meds to stop the nausea (which would work for a little while and then it would start again), and they called my surgeon around 2:30am. Unfortunately' they did not explain to him how sick I was and he did not come in to the hospital until about 6:30am. Once he saw me he apologized and told me that if he had know that I was that sick he would have been there at 2:30. He took me into xray and checked my band/port etc and said that everything looked good but he took out about 4cc that were in the band to help alleviate any swelling/irritation that was there. Man what a difference that made!!

The worst part of the whole experience was that when I would start feeling nauseous my mouth would actually secrete a bile tasting saliva!! Talk about gross!!

They ended up admitting me for observation but allowed me to come home today around 5:00pm. One of the nurses told my surgeon that she was afraid she jinxed me because when I left the hospital on Tues after my Monday surgery she told him that I was one of the best lap-band patients she had ever had because I was doing so well.

The reason I am sharing this is because I want to encourage anyone who starts having problems to go get checked as soon as possible, my dr was wonderful and was able to make an adjustment that solved my issue. I was able to get through the night without actually vomiting, which made me happy because I didn't want to chance messing up my band etc. My only regret is that I didn't push to see the surgeon sooner! We have to advocate for ourselves and make sure that our problems are take seriously.

Take care everyone! God bless, Wendy

I am so sorry to hear about your discomfort. I hope you get great results from your testing.

I did have a tightness in my chest after surgery and was very short of breath. I am currently 4 days post op and day 1 and 2 (and a bit of day 3) were the worst. When I climbed a set of stairs I was breathing like I ran a marathon. Thankfully with my breathing and coughing exercises the problem has corrected itself. I hope it does for you as well!

I had to have some of the original Fluid in the band removed while in the hospital and then again 6 days later. After that I've felt much better. I also felt that tightness, but luckily no shortness of breath.

I was banded on 9/28.

I still can't keep anything down and the foul taste I have in my mouth is just horrible. I sucked on a lemon without swallowing any pulp and that actually helped a little.

I plan to go back to work tomorrow, but I just feel so weak since I haven't been able to keep anything down.

What's your doctor say? If you haven't called him yet, do right away!

We have a new thread now, "Sept 10 bandsters." started by Brian.

I hope you are feeling well enough to go back to work. You might want to take off tomorrow and check with your surgeon to make sure all is well. See you on the other thread, to let us know how you are doing.

I was banded 9/22/10. I have lost 135 lbs. and now at my goal of 170 lbs. Woo hoo for me. Didn't think I could do it. It was hard. I had my last fill in February 2012, for 2 months I had a very hard time. I thought I was overfilled, but went back to the Dr. in March and he checked with flourscopy and said I was fine just chew slowly and eat less. Well it worked out very well. All of a sudden I felt less restricted and started losing. I went today for an appointment and the Dr. was very happy with me. He checked on what I was eating and not eating. Told me the object was to eat a little of everything which I am doing. I could eat almost everything I used to eat but a lot less. He told me to that I did not have to come back until March of 2013 unless I was having bad heartburn, felt tighter or any other problems. I am now wearing size 12 bottoms and medium tops. This was previous size before I had my two kids 24 years ago. I really can not believe it. I feel so much better and feel as if I can do so much more. I just have not mastered exercising. I do walk a lot, but can not stand working out on the machines.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
