3 yrs out- why I had my fill removed voluntarily

Sadie, thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I definitely know where you are coming from! The more you, me and everyone else who has realized this problem the more can benefit from it and get the situation handled without haste.

It's a hard lesson that a band that is too tight is just as detrimental to us as not having a band at all.

You should always be able to eat healthy well balanced meals - always! If you are finding yourself not being able to eat solid foods that are good for your body then you are too tight. I don't know how many times I've said this on this website or anywhere.

I know first hand. If you are eating all sugary soft foods to avoid eating real solid foods, do not hesitate and get yourself a small unfill right away.

The weight WILL come back faster than you think, then you will have to struggle to beat the sugar demon at the same time. It's better to get a handle on it as soon as you are aware of the situation.

Together we will see success while we hold the hands of our banded brothers and sisters. Cheers!!

Sadie, thank you for sharing with us. I want to get that book - heading to Barnes and Nobles tonight.

I had my band surgery in March 2008 and lost 80 lbs but have put 20 back on. My goal is too lose 100 lbs. It seems when the band is tight, I lose but cannot eat healthly. So I take some fill out and I can eat more foods but put weight back on. I am really struggling with this because a part of me wants to keep it tight because I don't want to keep putting weight on and I want to lose more.

It's all in your mind. I am so addicted to food and I need to get a handle on it. Hopefully, this book will help. thanks again and best wishes everyone.

Dolores

Geenen Roth never worked for me either- I read her years ago and it was a radical idea back then.

Gillian Riley teachs you to re-train your brain to not automatically respond food cues. Stimulus -response to food is really strong with me and she helped me decrease that response and consider my goals first and then whether I wanted that food. Radical!

I am a retired psychologist and always thought all the diets were missing some criticall element --otherwise everyone would be successful right?

The element is re-training your brain. and it works for me.

Good luck to all- I hope this helps you a bit.

And I got tired of not being able to eat oranges and fruits too!

Sadie

thank you so much for your post!

I was banded in 2007 lost 80 and has started to gain back a few pounds. I am in the middle of reading Roth but I don't but I know there are just some foods that trigger a response in me...when I avoid them I dont overeat. Of course these foods are healthy either.

I will be ordering that book right away to work on training my brain.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
