It's Tuesday!!! How is the week going? Anything new?

I had a very boring day. Talked to the doctors office and they have gotten the okay from insurance on the phone, but are waiting for the letter to come. Well the letter still hasn't come. We both called the insurance company last week and they said they would send it.

Karla

Same boat as you, here! Insurance company approved me on 5/28 (yay!) but the surgeon's office is awaiting the formal letter before my first appointment (boo!)

I am so eager to start it's killing me... lol

This has been a very long Thursday!!! And I'm so happy it's over. I still haven't told my mother that I'm going through with this process. My daughter finally knows and she thinks it's cool. I've had so many other surgeries that this doesn't even phase her.

I'm going to bed early tonight. Just to be fresh for Friday. Goodnight!!!

I get on here often, but there isn't really a section that I want to contribute to. Mainly...I would just like to hear how your day went as you progress thru this new change.

How often do you think about this? Did you encounter someone today that made you feel good about your decision?

I went to a Women's Expo this weekend. Some guy wanted to sell me some stuff for a few hundred dollars that would do everything in a matter of 6 weeks. I have never believed in doing anything short term. I only believe in life style changes. He told me that I was wasting my time with LAP-BAND®...but wouldn't it be wasting my time more with a temporary 6 week program?? It really pissed me off. I've always been an active athlete.

Anyway...that is my rant for the day. I hope you can share your ups, downs, and discoveries of the day.

Hey! I'm with you, I like to know the daily stuff, but do come on here to find answers to some questions I may have. I would suggest (if you aren't already) following some blogs (blogger.com has some fantastic ones). There are alot of banded gals (and guys) on there, and you can follow thier journey! Here are a couple of my favs....

Once Upon A Time...In the Land of cheese and Sunkist

Just a thought.

I am self pay and my hubby told me not to worry about the money because he would take care of it and although I believed him, I couldn't really go very far with this until I KNEW we had financing for sure, and yesterday I found out we got approved for the financing!! sooo exciting. I can really push forward and set a date and everything now. I am just waiting to find out when my mom is able to get off work because I want her to come with me. As soon as she lets me know, Ill set the date!

In other news, I will be graduating college in mid september and was kind of bummed that my classmates will probably not see me lose much weight before the end of school, but then I remembered that the actual ceremony is not until a few months later (not sure of the exact date) so I will be able to surprise everyone when we come back for it!! (and wear a new dress!)

My doctor's website suggested making a goal or vision board. I finally created on with the goal of every 25 lbs.

1. I want to represent the university that I work for better as I travel the country.

2. I saw a wonderful one piece swimsuit made by Spanx that I would like to wear. I haven't put one on in 7-8 years.

3. I will use bike riding to get back to a better and healthier body.

4. I also picked out a nice little top that I can wear when I lose 50 lbs.

5. I feel sexy on the inside now...but I also want to feel sexy on the outside as well.

6. For whatever reason...there is a bottle of Patron on my poster!?!?!?!:(

Okay....so I was really pissed at my insurance company today and I let them know it.

My doctor submitted the paper work 04/27 and insurance approved it 04/29...why haven't either of us received the letter? I have talked to the insurance company 6 times trying to get them to send the letter and each time they say they are doing that day.

So today I wanted to know why they keep lying to me. The insurance lady at the doctor's office is wondering the same thing. So after a long amount of time on the phone...I received another promise to get it in the mail.

This is why I'm pissed...my tentative date for surgery is June 29th. But if they would have done their job and sent my paperwork back when they approved it I could have had my date moved forward.

I used to like my insurance company. Now they just piss me off.

EASY TIGER! But I know how insurance companies can piss you off. Over my years, I've had to deal with them many times. Sometimes very unpleasant.

My insurance would not pay for my lapband. So I had to take care of it myself. I tried, but they put a clause in there about not paying for anything to do with weight loss. PERIOD!

Anyway, today was a good day. We purchased a piece of property with a doublewide on it. we also bought the contents. Having a great time going through all the treasures. I'll let you know what we find.

Well the insurance rep for my surgeon called to update me. She also called the insurance company to question them about the fact they told her several times that they would send the letter and still hadn't sent it.

Anyway...football season is starting and we're getting ready. I had to get re-certified today. Now to lose this weight so I can be comfortable in the airplane seat.

Hello ya'll!

Well things are just as crazy as before. After I called the insurance company 5 times and the doctors office has also talked to them 4 times...I had to go deeper with my anger. I went to management.

Of course they tell me that it was approved 04/29/10 and she can see in the records where I was informed that all letters would be in the mail to both of us. She doesn't understand what the problem is.

I have had BCBS most of my life including as a child. This company has been apart of my extended families lives for as long as I can remember. It just isn't working for me.

So let's hope we might have something figured out.

my banding is july 12th. i had to do the 6 month thing which actually turned out to be a year. in the midst of it all i have lost 35 lbs. today i went to the matinee movie with my 9 year old grandaughter to see shreck. as i sat there i realized that i could actually fit into the seat without much problem. even just losing that small amount (compared to the 150 i have left to lose) has made a difference in my life. my feet and back don't hurt as much and i can walk farther without getting out of breath. i already see how much better my life will be with the band.

My day went ok. Been trying to keep my Protein up on the pre op diet. My date is June 24th. Excited yet kinda nervous about changes. There was a party at work, all this food in our break room. I had to leave and eat some where else, the temptation was starting to get to me while I was eating my liquid lunch. Everyone at work has been very supportive. At first I wasn't going to tell many people, but between my supervisor and manager always asking me about it, people would find out sooner or later. I just decided to tell people myself. Some people I haven't told, I feel like they wouldn't be as positive about my choice. A lot of people are happy for me and are rooting me on to get thru the pre op diet. Couldn't do it sometimes with out them. I have been having cravings tonite, need to get a Protein Shake in me soon, don't want to make bad choices. Lately I have been weak and my muscles have been sore, not sure if I am getting enough nutrients, but have been doing better. Good luck everyone:thumbup:

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
