Pre Op requirements???

Recommended Posts

I have noticed reading that alot of people are on an all liquid diet and they are pre op. I have not yet scheduled my surgery, I have to have a sleep apnea test done next week before they will schedule my surgery even though it has been approved by my insurance. Has anyone else had to have a sleep apnea test done? Also will I have to be on a liquid diet before surgery?

Every surgeon is different on the pre-op diet. But most do say a high Protein diet will help the surgery with the liver size decreased. The difference is it Liquid Protein or regular food Protein.< /p>

Good luck on your sleep study, I didn't have to do that.

My pre-op diet was just my regular diet. I had my surgery on a Thursday. Monday and Tuesday I wasn't supposed to eat very much meat--I could eat whatever I wanted to otherwise. Wednesday was liquids.

Other than that, I ate whatever I wanted before the surgery.

Every surgeon's program is different. One of my prerequisites was an overnight sleep study. Also had to have a full GI series, ultrasound, psychiatric evaluation, blood work, chest xray, pregnancy test and six months of visits with the nutritionist. My PCP had to send a letter of recommendation along with ten years of weight history and weight loss attempts. I think that was the extent of it for requirements. My pre-op diet consisted of five days of Clear Liquids.

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
