Surgery is May 20th and I'm so excited/nervous

Recommended Posts

OMG I feel so nervous!!! Part of me is SO super excited... but I am losing sleep at night b/c I'm scared too. PLUS I will be flying to Mexico for my surgery, and I've never even been on a plane. I only have 3 days of Clear liquids before surgery, Is that normal? I am seeing a lot of people that have 2 weeks of liquids. Any general advice here?

What if I don't fit on the plane??

Dont fret about the plane ride!!!! At my highest of 289 I fit on a plane. I will admit that sometimes I had to struggle with the seatbelt but it always worked. If you have issues, see the stewardess who will give you a seat belt extender. Dont feel bad....you will never need it again!!!

I am currently on my pre-op diet....Wed - Saturday = only liquids plus a dinner (protein, salad, & steamed veggie); Sunday = liquids only; Monday surgery!!!! Every doc is different.

Good luck!! Dont worry about the plane ride. Bring some magazines, books, MP3 player and relax!

Mine is set for May 19th. I'm also going to Mexico for my surgery. I haven't gotten nervous yet but I'm sure it'll come. Good Luck to you!

Thanks for the advice Butterfly! I have a few audio books on my Zune that I am planning on listening to. I'm glad that you've had previous experience with the airplanes. Like you said, this trip will be the LAST time I'd need one... Thank GOD!

Peprmentpati - which doc are you going to in Mexico? I am going to Dr. Roberto Rumbaut in Monterrey. Have you gotten a lot of crap from friends and family about the Mexico thing? Everyone is so scared of having surgery done in a different country. per my research, my Dr is world renown, and actually teaches and mentors US doctors... PLUS he's more than HALF the price... whats not to like? :smile2: Being a self-pay you have to go with what works.

I only have to do clear liquids the day before surgery. On one hand we can consider ourselves lucky, on the other hand it gives us less time to prepare for the post-op diet. Also the people on extended pre-op liquid diets get a jumpstart on their weight loss which is a great motivator going in to surgery.

We are going out to eat on the 18th for my birthday. I wanted to go 1 day early, so I could do 2 full days on a liquid diet before my surgery. It is only 1 more day than what my doctor requires, but it's still 1 extra day to get used to the clear liquid diet.< /p>

Well Happy Birthday Ms Cafe!!! Okay I'm glad to know that Im not the only one on a short liquid diet... Im glad mine is this way though, because even though we don't get a jump start, I HATE the feeling of being hungry, and I mean really hungry, where you get the hunger pangs etc... THATS why I can't seem to successfully lose weight in the first place. I'm just ready to get this show on the road. Tomorrow is my first day or Clear Liquids. I have my sugar-free Jello ready to go, along with my crystal light, and my chicken broth! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
